Natalie’s eyes flashed as she snapped, “Nobody is taking what belongs to Jordan. Not ever.”
Jordan stared at the photos Ethan had sent him. The longer he looked, the darker his expression grew. He didn’t waste a second. He got up and stormed straight to Jackson’s office.
Jackson was on the phone with someone. Jordan didn’t care who it was. He just pushed the door open and walked right in.
Jackson’s eyebrows pulled together in annoyance. He ended his call with a quick, “I’ll call you back,” then looked at his son, clearly annoyed. “Jordan, do you not know how to knock? Even little kids in kindergarten have better manners. Honestly, you could learn something from them.”
Jackson couldn’t help but think of Kevin, always so polite and respectful. Deborah had done a good job with him. Jordan was different. Cynthia tried to teach him, but Jordan never accepted her as a real parent, so she eventually backed off, afraid people would call her a bad stepmom. Jackson was always caught up in work and didn’t have much time to keep Jordan in line, and it showed. Between his two sons, Jackson found himself leaning toward Kevin more and more.
Jordan gave a bitter laugh. “So now that you have a secret son, I’m suddenly the rude, ungrateful one?”
Jackson’s face turned cold. “What are you talking about? Don’t say things like that. You’re my only son. Where would I get another one?”
Jordan’s mouth twisted into a hard smile. “Someone sent a package to Cynthia. She opened it and found these inside.”
Jackson’s frown deepened. “Sent to Cynthia? Who sent them? Where did they come from?”
“Dad, that’s not the point right now,” Jordan shot back. “Just tell me the truth. Are these real? Are you actually keeping some woman out there? Do you have a secret son? Is that what this is? You think I’m not good enough for you? I’m working my ass off for The Lane Group, trying to outdo Ethan and bring in business, all so you can give half of everything to some other kid who’s done nothing for this family. How could you do this to me? What did I ever do to deserve it? And how could you do this to Cynthia? I know I’m not her biggest fan, but she’s been your wife for twenty years. She’s looked after us both for all that time.”
