A couple of minutes later, Isabella opened the car door for Ethan herself and gestured for him to get in.
Ethan looked at her, his eyes full of hurt.
“Hurry up. You’re going to be late,” Isabella said.
He reached out, trying to pinch her cheek, but she turned away, dodging his hand.
“Babe, I’m heading back to The Adams Estate tonight. Are you really not coming with me?”
“I can’t. I’m busy.”
Ethan pressed his lips together and didn’t say anything else. He slid into the taxi that she’d called for him, moving with that quiet elegance he always had.
As soon as he was inside, the driver pulled away. The distance between them grew quickly. Ethan glanced back, hoping to see Isabella watching him leave, but she was already walking toward her own car. She didn’t even look back.
That stung. His eyes grew darker, his mood turning heavy. He remembered what Keith had said. If you want to win back a wife you’ve hurt, you have to fix what broke things in the first place.
But how was he supposed to fix this? The whole reason things fell apart with Isabella was because he’d deceived her, used her, and loved Natalie. How do you fix something like that? It was impossible.
Was he really just supposed to stand by and watch Isabella drift further away?
At first, when Isabella started acting so calm, when she stopped crying and fighting, Ethan thought she was just trying to get his attention by being understanding. Now he realized he was wrong. Isabella was truly letting go of her love for him. She didn’t even care enough to compete with Natalie anymore.
Now, Cynthia was in the garden, trimming the flowers. Her face looked as calm and composed as ever, showing no sign of sadness.
“Cynthia.”
Zachary stepped out of the house. He and Amelia had come over that morning, right after Cynthia called to say she wanted to divorce Jackson.
“Zachary, aren’t you taking a break?” she asked.
“You’re not resting, so how could I possibly sleep?”
To Zachary, Cynthia’s gardening was just a way to keep her mind off Jackson’s cheating. Honestly, he’d seen this coming for a while. He once warned Cynthia that a big boss like Jackson would never have just one woman.
