“Isabella, you said you needed to talk to me in person. What’s going on?” Ethan dropped the flirty act and got serious.
Isabella didn’t hesitate. “Someone from my dad’s side showed up. My uncle.”
Ethan kept his face blank, just waiting for her to go on.
“The first thing out of his mouth was about money. He said since my dad’s gone, I have to take care of my grandparents now. He asked for two million dollars up front. Then he wanted another six hundred thousand every month for their living expenses.”
Ethan’s voice was icy. “Six hundred thousand a month? For them? Are they kidding?”
Everyone in their social circle knew exactly how the George family had treated Isabella. Even when Ethan first met her, he already knew her grandparents and uncle were just awful people. Now they had the nerve to demand that kind of money from her?
“They absolutely don’t deserve it. I turned him down right away,” Isabella said. “It’s obviously Paul’s idea. Someone must have told them I married into money, so now they’re here with their hands out.”
“They’d never dare go after my mom. But since I’m still my father’s daughter, they think they can squeeze something out of me.”
She looked at Ethan, her voice steady. “I just want you to be ready for this. They won’t stop. If they can’t get money from me, they’ll come looking for you. If that happens, just ignore them. Even if they end up with nothing, that’s on them. I’m never giving them a cent, and you shouldn’t either.”
“Let the security team at the Adams Estate know too. If they see my uncle, just tell them to kick him out.”
She took out her phone and pulled up a photo she’d snapped of Paul earlier. She sent it to Ethan right away.
Ethan caught on immediately. He forwarded the photo to the estate’s head of security and told them to remove Paul the second he showed up.
The Adams Estate was huge. It sat on top of a flat hill, with a guard post at the bottom. No one was getting up that road without permission, let alone setting foot on the property.
