Alpha's Private Plaything (Elsa and Drake Stone) novel Chapter 126

Chapter 126

Drake

I surveyed the grand ballroom, where the annual InterPack Charity

Auction was in full swing. The event was merely a political necessity

-a forced display of cooperation between the Black Obsidian and

Silver Moon packs. With joint mining project negotiations underway,

my father had insisted I represent our interests this year.

I could barely focus on the auctioneer’s rapidfire delivery. My

attention was completely fixed on Elsa beside me, her blue eyes

locked on the silver moonlight pendant displayed under the

spotlights. The delicate crescent moon with its tiny embedded

diamonds caught the light beautifully, but what fascinated me more

was her reactionshe rarely showed interest in jewelry, yet now

seemed unable to tear her gaze away.

What the hell has gotten into her? Curiosity surged within me,

mixed with something strongera stinging sense of possession.

See something you like?I murmured, leaning close to her ear. Our

ten years of intimacy had taught me to catch every subtle change in

her expression. Even when she angered me, her presence always

calmed my inner turbulence.

Elsa blinked, as if waking from a trance. No, just thinking about

work,she denied quickly, too quickly.

I could detect her tensiona subtle tell she’d never been able to hide

from me in our ten years together. Bullshit. She wants it but won’t

admit it. Stubborn as always..

Fine, I’ll get it for you,I stated firmly, my tone making it clear this

wasn’t a suggestion. If she wanted something, she would have itnot

because I was generous, but because I decided what she received.

Drake, really, that’s not necessary-

I cut her off with a sharp look. I said I’m buying it.End of

discussion. My jaw clenched. Why did she always have to argue about

every goddamn thing?

When the silver pendant came up for auction, I raised my paddle

immediately. Most bidders backed off once they saw my involvement -they knew better than to compete with the Alpha of Black Obsidian. But to my intense irritation, Allen continued raising his paddle from

across the room.

You’ve got to be shitting me. A growl formed low in my throat. Who the hell did he think he was? My blood boiled as the price climbed, far

beyond what the piece was worth.

Allen’s gaze occasionally drifted toward Elsa, and a possessive heat

surged through my chest. He’s not looking at the pendant. The

bastard is looking at her.

Drake, please don’t,Elsa whispered, her fingers lightly touching my

forearm. It’s just silver and stones. It’s not worth this much.

Her words only stoked my determination, adding fuel to the rage

building inside me. What, you think I can’t afford a necklace?I

asked coldly, my voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. You think

I’m poor?

She withdrew her hand immediately, her expression shuttering. Good. She understood this had stopped being about the pendant and had

become about dominance between two men. I’d be damned if I let

Allen win anything Elsa had shown interest in.

The bidding continued, pushing to absurd heights. My anger rose with each bid. Allen’s face showed hesitation, but he stubbornly persisted. I’ll bankrupt myself before I let him win this. Finally, at nearly fifteen times the market value, he relented.

Sold to Mr. Stone!the auctioneer announced with poorly concealed

delight.

A savage satisfaction coursed through me. Damn right it’s mine. I

turned to Elsa, whose expression was a mixture of resignation and something else I couldn’t quite decipher. Disappointment? Anger? I

didn’t care.

When the attendant brought the pendant, I ordered Elsa to turn around so I could fasten it myself. Her skin trembled slightly beneath my fingers as I brushed her golden hair aside. The warmth of her neck sent a rush of satisfaction through me. Mine. All fucking mine. The clasp clicked into place, and the silver moon rested perfectly against her throata visible symbol for everyone to see.

You’ll wear the black evening gown I brought for tonight’s dinner,I instructed, my lips close to her ear. And keep this pendant on.

Elsa nodded stiffly, but the tension in her shoulders told me everything about her feelings. It didn’t matter. I hadn’t bought the pendant to please her, but to send a message to othersespecially Allen Moonlight. She’s mine, stay away from her.
