Chapter 129
Elsa
I lay on the blanket inside the tent, every muscle in my body screaming in protest. My legs felt like jelly, and the tender ache
between my thighs reminded me of what had just happened. Drake’s scent still clung to my skin, marking me as thoroughly as any
physical brand.
Christ, I can barely move. The bastard certainly made sure I’d remember this little beach excursion.
The peaceful aftermath was shattered by Drake’s phone ringing. He answered immediately, his face hardening as he listened.
“I understand. We’ll be there right away.” His voice dropped an octave, that commanding Alpha tone that made my spine straighten
automatically.
Drake was already pulling on his pants, movements precise and efficient. “Get dressed,” he ordered without looking at me.
“What’s happening?” I asked, slowly sitting up, wincing at the soreness that radiated through my core.

“The mate exchange is starting soon. We need to go back to the
resort.”
Oh god, no. No, no, no. Not this. Anything but this. Is this why he fucked me senseless first? To make sure I was properly “warmed up”
for whoever he’s trading me to?
I fumbled for my dress, the one he’d practically torn off me earlier. The fabric was ripped at the seam, barely decent enough to make it back to our room. As I struggled to cover myself, Drake tossed his
black jacket at me.
“Put this on. We’ll get you changed once we’re back.”
His face was unreadable, but there was a new tension in his shoulders that hadn’t been there before. I wrapped his jacket around my shoulders, inhaling his scent involuntarily. Damn it. Even now, part of me responded to him, craved his protection even as I feared what he
planned to do with me.
“Move,” he commanded, already ducking out of the tent.
I followed him, my legs wobbling beneath me. Every step was a reminder of our coupling, a physical echo of his possession. Maybe 1 should just run now, disappear into the woods. But who am I kidding? He’d track me down in minutes, and then I’d be truly fucked–and not

in the way I just was.
Back in our suite, Drake immediately headed for the bathroom. The shower started running, and I stood awkwardly in the middle of the room, still wearing his jacket over my torn dress.
my voice.
“Where’s Eric?” I called out, unable to keep the anxiety from Eric was Drake’s friend, but he’d always been decent to me. His
absence now felt ominous.
“He left the resort last night,” Drake replied over the sound of running water, his tone dismissive.
My stomach dropped. Eric had left. That meant the only people still here were those participating in the exchange.
Shit, shit, shit. This is really happening. Everyone who wasn’t participating has conveniently disappeared. How fucking convenient.
Drake emerged from the bathroom ten minutes later, a towel wrapped around his waist, droplets of water still clinging to his chest. He walked past me to the closet, pulling out a fresh suit.
“Take a shower. Put on something formal–black, preferably. And wear

the silver moon pendant.” He glanced at me, his eyes cold and distant.
“Don’t embarrass me tonight.”
The bathroom door closed behind me, and I leaned against it, trying to control my breathing. The steam from Drake’s shower still hung in the air, but it did nothing to warm the chill spreading through my
body.
I stepped into the shower, letting the hot water cascade over my body, washing away Drake’s scent as best I could. My mind raced through options. I’d noticed that many familiar Black Obsidian pack members had already left the resort–Eric last night, and others before him. The only ones who remained were high–ranking members who participated in these exchanges.
I will not be passed around like a fucking party favor. I’d rather walk back to the city barefoot than let that happen. I need to find a way
out. Now.
