Alpha’s Private Plaything
Chapter 151
I slumped against the driver’s seat, too fucking exhausted to even
turn the key in the ignition. My entire body felt like lead, and a dull
throb pulsed behind my eyes.
The conversation with Drake had drained whatever pathetic energy
had left after the doctor’s devastating news. My hand trembled
violently as I reached for the bottle of water in the cup holder,
knocking it over and cursing as it rolled under the passenger seat.
“Goddammit!” I slammed my palm against the steering wheel, feeling
tears of frustration burn behind my eyes. I didn’t even have the
strength to retrieve the stupid bottle.
My phone vibrated against the console, the harsh buzzing making me
flinch. Oliver’s name flashed on the screen. I hesitated before
answering, my stomach knotting with dread. My cousin would
immediately sense something was wrong–he had that annoying wolf
intuition that could read my moods even through the phone.
“Hello?” My voice sounded hollow even to my own ears, cracking on
that single word.
“Elsa?” Oliver’s voice was tight with panic. “Elsa, you need to come
back to the hospital right now.”
Chapter 151
I sat up straighter, my heart beginning to race, the bitter taste of fear
flooding my mouth. “What’s wrong? Is Mom-”
“It’s the medication.” His words tumbled out in a rush. “Dr. Green just
came by and said the rare medication for treating silver toxicity is
gone. They can’t do the next round of treatment.”
My mind went blank, a high–pitched ringing filling my ears. I stared
through the windshield at the hospital entrance, the same fucking
doors I’d walked through less than an hour ago, now blurring as my
vision swam.
“I’ll be right there,” I said mechanically, my numb fingers fumblin
with the keys three times before I managed to start the car.
The drive around to the hospital’s east entrance took only minutes,
but my thoughts were racing, my breath coming in short, painful
gasps. Without the specialized medication, my mother’s silver
toxicity would progress faster. The veins of silver that had begun to
creep across her skin would spread, eventually reaching her heart and
brain. Fuck, fuck, FUCK!
I pulled into the nearest parking space, not caring that I was crooked
and taking up two spots. My hands were shaking so badly I dropped
my keys twice before grabbing my phone, pulling up the hospital’s
security app.

Chapter 151
Being listed as my mother’s primary caregiver had its advantages –
including access to the ward’s monitoring system. I’d installed it
months ago when I couldn’t be there during important consultations
due to work with that bastard Drake.
What I saw made my blood run cold, a wave of nausea rising in my
throat.
Oliver stood in the treatment room, his normally gentle face
contorted with rage, veins bulging in his neck. He was holding
something in his hand – a bottle of clear liquid – and waving it
threateningly at Dr. Green. The doctor’s eye was splashed with a little
liquid. He covered one eye and pushed it backward. From the way
was backing away, eyes wide with alarm, I knew it wasn’t water in that
bottle.
“-don’t care about your fucking protocols!” Oliver’s voice came
through the speaker, distorted but clear enough, “You gave her
medication to someone else, didn’t you? Some rich asshole who paid
more?”
Dr. Green raised his hands defensively. “Mr. Brown, please calm down. The allocation of rare medications follows strict guidelines. Your
aunt’s case-”
“My aunt’s case what?” Oliver pulled something else from his pocket –
a knife and my heart stopped, my fingers digging so hard into my

phone I thought the screen might crack. “Is my aunt not important
enough? Is that it? Because we’re not part of some fancy pack?”
I was already running, phone still clutched in my sweating palm,
watching in horror as Oliver stepped closer to the doctor.
