Chapter 177
“Drake? Are you there?” Vera asked. “What was that sound?”
“I’m here,” he finally answered, his voice remarkably steady despite
my continued torture. “Just tired. Late night at the office.”
I bit his earlobe, pulling it between my teeth with enough force to
make him wince. Drake’s free hand fisted in my hair, but he didn’t
pull me away. His eyes bore into mine with a promise of retribution
that sent a shiver down my spine.
“Poor baby,” Vera cooed. “Should I come over? I could help you relax.
“Not tonight,” Drake replied, his eyes locked on mine, a strange mix
of anger and desire swirling in their depths. “I’ll call you tomorrow.”
After hanging up, Drake’s expression darkened to something
dangerous and predatory. “You think you’re clever? Playing with fire
like that?”
“What are you going to do about it?” I challenged, my chest heaving
with each breath, adrenaline making me reckless. “Punish me? Go
ahead, I don’t give a shit anymore.”

“Make you regret it,” he promised, his voice deadly quiet. “By the time I’m done with you tonight, you’ll be begging for mercy. And I won’t
give you any.”
True to his word, Drake took me everywhere in the apartment- against the shower wall with water cascading down our bodies, on the kitchen counter where my nails scraped against the marble, bent over
the back of the sofa as I cursed his name. Each time I thought I
couldn’t take anymore, my limbs shaking with exhaustion, he proved
me wrong, drawing responses from my body I didn’t know were
possible.
“Your scent has changed,” he murmured against my skin as we lay
tangled in the sheets near dawn, my body covered in a sheen of sweat, marks from his mouth and hands forming a map of possession across
my skin. “It’s richer. More mature.”
I turned my face away, blinking back unexpected tears. “Is that your
way of saying I’m getting old?” My voice cracked despite my attempt
at sarcasm.
“No.” His fingers traced my collarbone possessively, sending
aftershocks through my oversensitive nerves. “It’s better. More… you.”
I closed my eyes, refusing to feel anything at his words. I’d noticed he
hadn’t been with another woman recently–his scent was pure Drake, without the lingering traces of perfume or other omegas that usually

clung to him. But that didn’t mean anything. Drake Stone didn’t do
fidelity, especially not for someone like me. Don’t be a fucking idiot,
Elsa. You’re just convenient.
The jarring ringtone shattered the moment again. Vera, calling at four
in the goddamn morning. Drake cursed under his breath but made no
move to answer as I let out a humorless laugh.
“Aren’t you going to get that?” I taunted, even as he carried my
exhausted body toward the bathroom, my limbs hanging limply, too
drained to fight. “Your real girlfriend needs you.”
He ignored me, setting me on the counter and starting the shower.
The phone finally stopped, then immediately began ringing again
with an insistence that matched its owner’s personality.
With a sigh of frustration, Drake snatched it up, his movements sharp
with annoyance. “What?”
“Drake?” Vera’s voice was thick with tears. “Are you… are you done
with me? Is that it?”
I leaned forward and gently bit Drake’s shoulder, my eyes never
leaving his face as I watched his expression darken. My tongue darted
out to taste his skin, my hands sliding up his chest with deliberate
intent.

“I’ve told you a hundred times not to call this late,” he said harshly.
“But I need you,” she whimpered. “I live for you, Drake. If you don’t
want me anymore, I… I don’t know how I’ll go on.”
Pathetic, I thought, continuing my silent assault on Drake’s neck, my body aching but my pride demanding I finish what I started. Her
father stole my mother’s treatment, so I’ll steal her boyfriend for one
night. Seems fair to me. I sucked hard at the spot just below his jaw,
determined to leave a mark that wouldn’t fade before his next
meeting with Vera.
