Chapter 27
Elsa
Vera continued, her voice growing more confident as she saw the attention focused on her. “She spent a long time by the display racks too, staring at the pack control panel…”
Drake’s brows furrowed, his golden eyes flicking between Vera and me. “Are you certain about what you saw?”
Vera’s eyes welled with tears, the perfect picture of reluctant accusation. “I don’t know why Elsa would do this… Maybe she didn’t want the company to benefit from this partnership? Especially after you gave the project to me…”
“You lying bitch,” I breathed, shock making me forget my place. The wolves around us stiffened at my words, but I didn’t care. “How dare
you?”
My blood boiled with rage so intense I could barely see straight. Ten years of service to this pack, and this-THIS is what I get?
Vera shrank back against Drake, making a show of being frightened. “I’m just telling what I saw.”
Drake’s expression darkened, his wolf eyes studying me with dangerous intensity.
I forced myself to breathe deeply, to think rationally despite the pain in my ankle and the betrayal burning in my chest. “If I wanted to sabotage the deal, why would I be the one who arranged the meeting with Mike in the first place?” Are you all fucking blind? Can’t you
see what she’s doing?
*Check the security footage. If someone tampered with the display, there will be evidence.”
Harold cleared his throat. “As I mentioned, Alpha, the surveillance system was still disabled.”
“How convenient,” I muttered, then raised my voice. “The emergency button-did anyone check if it was triggered? It’s right where Vera pulled me to ‘ask questions’ about the silver ores.”
Drake’s jaw tightened. For a brief moment, doubt flickered across his features.
But Vera wasn’t finished. “Drake,” she whispered, the use of his first name clearly deliberate, “I’m scared. Why is she accusing me? I was just trying to learn…”
“Elsa pressed the black control button that caused the silver mine to explode!” Vera’s voice rose dramatically, and her eyes widened with the innocent expression she had carefully practiced. I saw it with my own eyes!
My blood froze instantly. Black button? My mind sped back to that moment yes, I did see it, but I fucking didn’t touch it at all.
Harold, the old factory manager who was receiving treatment for minor silver dust exposure, cleared his throat. His weathered face looked

troubled as he turned toward me.
“The black button does control the emergency release for the display case stabilizers,” he confirmed, his eyes narrowing with confusion.
“Pressing it would override all safety protocols. That’s what caused the collapse.” He studied my face carefully. “Did you really touch that
button, Ms. Hale?”
Before I could answer, Vera leaned forward, her expression morphing into one of exaggerated sympathy.
“If she knew it would hurt people, I’m sure she wouldn’t have done it,” she said softly, her hand resting on Drake’s arm. “Maybe it was just an accident? Maybe she slipped or… her hand just brushed against it accidentally?”
The fake concern in her voice made the wolf inside me growl with fury. I could feel my control slipping, anger building in my chest like
molten silver.
“Shut your fucking mouth,” I hissed, my voice low but lethal.
The room suddenly went silent. Drake’s eyes flashed gold, but I no longer cared about his displeasure.
I stared directly into Vera’s eyes, no longer playing the submissive Omega. “Vera, did you actually see me press that button with your own
eyes? Do you dare look me in the eye and swear that you witnessed it yourself?”
Vera immediately ducked behind Drake, her eyes widening with theatrical fear. “Don’t threaten me! I’m just telling the truth!” She
clutched at Drake’s shirt. “Drake, she’s scaring me!”
Such a fucking actress, I spat internally, look at her playing the victim like I’m some kind of monster. I’ve been taking this shit for too
long. No, not anymore.
Drake’s response was immediate and brutal. He stepped forward, his body radiating Alpha dominance, towering over me.
“Enough!” he growled, his voice carrying the full weight of his Alpha command. “Who do you think you are to speak to her like that? You have no right to question her this way. Shut your mouth, now!”
Fucking bastard, is this how much respect I’ve earned?
“Really?” I laughed, the sound brittle and cold. “That’s rich coming from you. You just believe her without question? Without any
evidence?”
Drake’s jaw tightened, his golden eyes burning into mine, “I trust Vera because she has never lied to me.”
The implication hung in the air between us. Unlike you. After standing by his side for so long, this was what he thought of me. The realization felt like a physical blow, knocking the air from my lungs.
He turned on me that quickly. For her. For a woman he’s known for what-a few months? Fuck him, cold-blooded bastard.

Just as the tension reached its peak, Vera let out a soft moan of pain. Her hand flew to her calf, leaning heavily against Drake.
“My leg,” she gasped, her voice trembling perfectly. “I think… I might have been cut by some debris…” She lifted pleading eyes to Drake. “It really hurts…”
Oh, how fucking convenient, I sneered internally, my ankle’s practically broken and she’s crying over an imaginary scratch.
Drake’s demeanor shifted immediately. The fire in his eyes softened to concern as he guided Vera to a nearby chair, kneeling before her, gentle hands examining her leg.
“Let me see,” he murmured, his voice tender in a way it was no longer for me. “We need to get this treated right away.”
