Alpha's Private Plaything (Elsa and Drake Stone) novel Chapter 29

Chapter 29

Elsa

I stepped back swiftly despite my injured ankle, ignoring the sharp pain that shot up my leg. “Don’t even fucking think about it,” I warned, my voice low but firm. My inner wolf growled with satisfaction at the flash of fear in her eyes.

Got you, you manipulative bitch, I thought, a cold satisfaction spreading through my chest.

“The evidence is clear,” I said, my voice steady as I looked directly into Vera’s eyes. ” You lied, Vera.”

Her face contorted with panic, the perfect little princess mask slipping completely. “I didn’t-I wasn’t-no, that’s not right,” she stammered, backing away. “The cameras must have missed it, or… or maybe it was edited.”

Look at her squirm. Not so confident now, are we? My lips twitched with the ghost of a smile.

“The footage has already been authenticated by IT,” I reminded her, keeping my voice calm despite the rage boiling beneath my skin. “You swore by the Moon Goddess that you saw me press that button. You broke a sacred oath.”

The color drained from Vera’s face. Breaking an oath sworn to the Moon Goddess was a serious offense in wolf society.

“Do you understand what would have happened to me without this evidence?” I continued, my gaze never leaving hers. “As an Omega accused of endangering pack members, I would have faced banishment at best, execution at worst.” I paused, letting my words sink in. “That was your plan, wasn’t it? To get me out of the fucking picture permanently?”

“I want her to take full responsibility for this disaster,” I said firmly, looking at Drake. “She should pack her things and leave the company

today.”

Vera’s eyes widened with genuine fear now. “I never meant-”

“You never meant to get caught,” I finished for her, disgust dripping from every syllable. “It was a clever plan, I’ll give you that. Disabling the security system, planting evidence, making a false accusation. But God, you’re stupid as shit to think you wouldn’t be discovered.”

Drake, who had been watching this exchange in silence, finally spoke. “Enough, Elsa.” His voice was tight, controlled.

Of course he’s still protecting her, I thought, bitterness flooding through me. Even with proof right in front of his fucking eyes.

But I wasn’t finished. “Even if I hadn’t recovered this footage,” I said, “the pack security investigation team would have discovered the truth eventually, Not to mention that your fingerprint is still on the button.” I let my gaze flicker between Vera and Drake.

The atmosphere in the room grew even more tense. The other wolves present-the medical staff and Harold, who had lingered by the door -shifted uncomfortably, sensing the power dynamics shifting.

“I said enough,* Drake repeated, his eyes flashing gold.

But something had changed in me. Fuck his Alpha commands. Fuck all of this.

“No,” I said simply, my wolf rising within me, lending strength to my voice. “It’s not enough. I was injured. I could have died. And then I was falsely accused of causing the accident.” I straightened my spine, ignoring the pain that shot through my body like lightning. “Why should I stay quiet? Because I’m an Omega? Because she’s your chosen mate?”

My chest heaved with emotion, years of suppressed anger finally breaking through the surface. All this time given to him, and this is what I get in return.

The room fell silent again. Drake’s eyes burned into mine, but for once, I didn’t look away. I saw confusion mixed with something else-

perhaps respect-flicker across his face. He wasn’t used to seeing this side of me.

After a long moment, Drake turned to Vera. “Kneel.”

Vera’s face paled further, her perfectly manicured hands trembling. “Drake, you can’t be serious”

“Kneel,” he ordered, his voice leaving no room for argument.

With obvious reluctance, Vera slowly lowered herself to her knees before me, her designer dress pooling around her on the sterile medical

room floor. Her hands trembled as she bowed her head, but I could see the hatred burning in her eyes when she glanced up. If looks could

kill, I’d be a fucking corpse on the floor.

“I… apologize for my false accusation,” she said, each word clearly painful for her to utter, like swallowing broken glass.

A savage satisfaction bloomed in my chest, seeing her finally brought low. How does it feel, princess? To taste humiliation for once?

Drake stepped forward before she could continue, his hand coming to rest on her shoulder. “That’s enough,” he said, helping her to her feet. “Vera has acknowledged her mistake. She doesn’t need to resign her position.”

The brief victory turned to ash in my mouth. I watched this display with a detached sort of calm, even as I felt something pierce my heart. Of course he would protect her. Even now, with irrefutable proof of her deception, he chose her.

“And I’ve made mine,” I replied, the words tasting of freedom and finality. The medical staff exchanged shocked glances at my defiance. “My ankle has sustained silver damage. According to company policy and the Staff Protection Act, I’m entitled to medical leave for

recovery,”

I took a deep breath, feeling strangely light as I uttered the words I’d been contemplating for weeks now. “I’ll be taking two months of sick leave effective immediately,” I paused, watching Drake’s face, savoring the shock that flickered there. “And my contract expires in two

months. At that time, I will be leaving Stone Industries.”

I’m done being your fucking doormat. Done being the faithful shadow who gets nothing in return.

Drake’s eyes instantly shifted to their wolf gold, his body tensing as if ready to pounce. The air around him seemed to crackle with rage.

“You’re under contract-

“Which ends in two months,” I finished for him, a strange calm settling over me despite the Alpha fury radiating from him. “And there’s

no clause requiring renewal.”

Vera, seeing her opportunity, immediately pressed herself against Drake’s chest, tears suddenly appearing in her eyes like some fucking magic trick. Oscar-worthy performance, bitch.

“Drake, I’m so sorry,” she whimpered, her voice transformed into that of a heartbroken girl. “I admit I lied, but only because I was afraid

I’d lose you.”

She looked up at him with wide, tear-filled eyes, perfectly playing the role of the remorseful lover. “I’m so in love with you that I can’t think straight. I get jealous when I see you with her. I’m jealous of how she gets to stand by your side every day.”
