The club’s floor spun slightly as I made another circuit, finding no trace of her. The bass pounded through my body, matching the throbbing

that had started behind my eyes. Damn it, I shouldn’t have drunk those shots so quickly.

My phone buzzed again, and I fumbled to answer it, my fingers suddenly clumsy.

“Elsa,” Sophia’s voice came through, choked with tears. “T hey won’t let me leave… please…”

The fear in her voice sent ice through my veins, momentarily cutting through the alcohol haze. “I’m coming,” I promised, turning sharply

toward the numbered rooms.

When I reached room 114, the scene inside made my blood boil despite the alcohol trying to cool me down. Sophia was trapped against the edge of a table, her silver hair disheveled, eyes glassy with fear as four men surrounded her. One of them held a glass of clear liquid to her lips

while she tried to turn her face away.

“Drink up,” one of them was saying. “You want this contract signed, don’t you?”

White-hot rage exploded behind my eyes. These fucking animals. I didn’t hesitate. I shoved the door open wider, strode across the room, and yanked my jacket off, draping it over Sophia’s trembling shoulders. I positioned myself between her and the men, my wolf rising protectively

despite the alcohol dulling my senses.

“That’s enough,” I said, scanning the faces of the Black Obsidian wolves. “She’s with me now.”

One of them, a red-haired man with a sneer plastered on his face, looked me up and down. “Well, if it isn’t Stone’s little pet. What’s the matter? She can’t handle her liquor, so you’re going to drink for her?”

I felt Sophia clutching the back of my shirt, her face pressed against my shoulder blade. “Elsa,” she whispered, “they said if I don’t entertain

them, they won’t sign the supply contract.”

Fucking cowards, using business to force themselves on her. My eyes caught sight of the document spread on the table-a standard supply agreement that would mean significant business for Sophia’s café. The air eeked of expensive vodka and male entitlement.

‘Gentlemen,” I said, keeping my voice steady despite the growing warmth reading through my veins from the alcohol, ‘business arrangements should be conducted professionally. I’m sure we can resolve this without further… entertainment.”

The red-haired man stepped closer, invading my personal space. His breat reeked of alcohol and cigars, making my stomach turn. Actually, we can’t. Either she drinks with us, or the contract’s off the table.”

I held his gaze, refusing to back down even as the room swayed slightly. Don’t show weakness. Don’t let them see you’re already three sheets to

the wind. “That’s not how business works in neutral territory.”

“It is when we say it is, another man chimed in. “This is how we celebrate new partnerships in Black Obsidian.”

Bullshit. I knew this wasn’t true-it was just these particular wolves abust their position. But arguing would get us nowhere. I could feel Sophia trembling behind me, and my protective instincts overrode everything else.

“Fine,” I said, not breaking eye contact. “How many drinks are we talking out?”

The leader’s grin widened. ‘Nine drinks. One for each of us, from each of you.”

Sophia made a distressed sound behind me. Nine drinks would put her in the hospital. They know exactly what they’re doing, the bastards.

“I’ll take them all,” I said firmly, even as my inner voice screamed at the stupidity of it. “My friend doesn’t drink. But I’ll make the same deal-1

drink, you sign.”

“Elsa, no, Sophia whispered urgently. “You’ve already been drinking tonight. This could kill you.”

I squeezed her hand reassuringly, though my head was already swimming and my stomach churned with acid. It probably won’t kill me. Probably. And even if it does, at least I’ll die doing something that matter for once.
