Alpha's Private Plaything (Elsa and Drake Stone) novel Chapter 62

Chapter 62

‘I would never seriously consider an assistant,” I said coldly, the lie bitter on my tongue like poison. “It was just a work

relationship. She became too dependent on me, that’s all.”

Everyone nodded in agreement, as they always did. The perks of being alpha-no one challenged your version of events, even

when they knew better. Even when they could smell the bullshit from a mile away.

“Vera is the real thing, Taylor chimed in, raising his glass. “To the future Luna of Black Obsidian.”

Vera preened under the attention, her satisfaction palpable in the way she squeezed my arm. She believed she’d won, that

she’d secured her position by my side permanently.

The door to the VIP room swung open, and the temperature seemed to drop several degrees. Alexander Lumin strode in, tall

and confident, the silver emblem of the Moon Shadow pack gleaming on his lapel. And beside him, draped in his suit jacket

with the Moon Shadow insignia prominently displayed, was Elsa.

My Elsa.

No. Not mine. Not anymore. But my wolf howled in protest at the sight of her with another alpha, wearing his colors,

accepting his protection. A murderous rage surged through me, hot and primitive. I wanted to rip his fucking throat out.

“Elsa?” Jason’s voice cut through my haze of anger. “You turned down my dinner invitation, but you’re here with the CEO of

Silver Glow Industries?”

Alexander smoothly placed his hand on the small of Elsa’s back-a gesture that made my fingers itch to break each of his

knuckles one by one. Slowly. Painfully.

“A fortunate coincidence,” he explained, his cultured accent grating on my nerves like nails on a chalkboard. “Ms. Hale’s car

broke down at the road. I happened to be passing by.”

Bullshit. That smug bastard had been circling her for weeks.

I kept my face impassive, but inside, my wolf was clawing to get out, to reclaim what it still considered ours. Beside me, Vera’s

fingers dug into my arm, her jealousy sharp and acrid in my nostrils.

Elsa’s eyes met mine, her gaze direct and unflinching. “Mr. Stone, why aren’t you answering company calls? Kayla said there

are urgent documents that need your signature regarding the silver mine factory.”

Vera shifted closer to me, her voice a practiced whisper. “I’m sorry, it’s my fault. We were attending a pack function.”

‘It’s not your responsibility, Miss. Hortons. Els tame was professionally polite, but I could smell the slight edge of contempt..

I’m merely relaying information as his assintaan.”

Jason, ever the mediator, stepped forward. “Elisa, Tim having a birthday party next week. You have to come.”

Elsa shook her head. “I’m sorry, I probably wont have time.”

“How can you not have time?” Jason grabbed her wrist, the casual touch sending a spike of rage through me. My vision clouded red at the edges. Don’t touch her. Domt won fucking touch her. “You’re leaving the company soon, aren’t you? Don’t

tell me you’re really planning to join Silver Glow and work for Lumin?”

The room fell silent, everyone waiting for her aneven. I found myself holding my breath, my wolf suddenly alert and anxious.

The thought of her working for him, spending her dings with him, made me want to howl with fury.

Vera leaned in close, her whisper meant for my ears allome. Lumin would be a good choice for her, don’t you think?”

Jason scoffed. “That old fox is always trying to pouch our resources. He directed a pointed look at Alexander. “First our silver

mines, now our staff. Some of us are just stupid rich guws who don’t know any better, right, Lumin?”

Alexander stepped forward smoothly, effortlessly detaching lason’s grip from Elsa’s wrist and drawing her slightly behind him.
