Chapter 66
Elsa
The morning sun filtered through the curtains as I finally returned to Sophia’s apartment. After that humiliating night with
Drake and spending the night alone in a hotel, all I wanted was to curl up and disappear.
Sophia rushed to hug me the moment I walked in. “Where the hell have you been? I was worried sick!”
“Sorry,” I murmured, not ready to explain last night’s confrontation with Drake. How do I even begin? Oh, Drake fucked me on
his desk then called me disgusting? Great conversation starter.
“Well, you have a distraction waiting for you,” she said, gesturing toward the living room. “Those arrived about an hour ago.”
Three enormous boxes sat in the center of the room, each tied with different colored ribbons. A small card attached to the
largest one read simply: “For tonight. Choose one. – Jason.”
“What’s tonight?” I asked, confused.
“His birthday party? The one everyone in both packs has been talking about for weeks?” Sophia rolled her eyes. “The invitation
is on the fridge. I RSVP’d for you.”
I opened the first box with the red ribbon. Inside lay a stunning ruby-red strapless gown, the fabric so luxurious it seemed to
pour through my fingers like water. Nestled beside it was a smaller box containing a ruby necklace and matching earrings.
“Holy shit,” Sophia whispered, peering over my shoulder.
Fuck me, I thought, staring at the gown. This isn’t a gift-it’s a statement. A very expensive statement.
The second box contained a royal blue structured gown with architectural pleating that would make any fashion designer weep, accompanied by blue topaz jewelry. But it was the third box that took my breath away-a silver sequined mermaid gown where each sequin caught the light like tiny mirrors. The accompanying diamond jewelry was understated yet elegant.
My phone rang. Jason.
“So, what do you think?” His voice bubbled with excitement.
“Jason, this is way too much. I can’t-” I can’t be bought. I can’t be someone’s trophy again.
“Don’t even start,’ he cut me off. “You’re coming to my party, and you’re going to look amazing. Which one do you like? I’ll wear a matching suit.”

I hesitated, my fingers tracing the silver sequins. Every instinct warned me not to accept gifts from wolves, especially male wolves with resources. But damn it, I was tired of living in fear, tired of denying myself small pleasures.
“If I had to choose… maybe the silver one.”
“Perfect!” Jason nearly shouted. “That’s the best one-it’s Paris haute couture with hand-sewn sequins. The fabric is so rare
they only made a few yards of it worldwide!”
His enthusiasm was infectious, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that accepting such an expensive gift might come with expectations. Men don’t give gifts this expensive without wanting something in return. I learned that lesson the hard way.
“I’ll pick you up at six in the silver Aston Martin,” he continued.
“Jason, you’re the birthday boy. You’ll be busy. I can get there myself.” And I need an escape route that doesn’t depend on you.
He reluctantly agreed, but made me promise to arrive by seven. After hanging up, I stared at the silver dress, wondering what
Drake would think when he saw me in it.
Not that I cared. Not anymore. Liar, whispered a small voice inside me.
I stood outside Jason’s mansion at seven sharp, nervously tugging at my black blazer. The silver gown beneath was stunning but clung to every curve of my body like a second skin. I’d never worn anything so revealing, hence the blazer for some
semblance of modesty.
