Chapter 77

His hand moved to the thin fabric of my sleep shirt, fingers curling into the collar. With one savage tug, he ripped it down the center, the

sound of tearing fabric loud in the confined space. Cold air hit my exposed skin, making me gasp as his calloused palm roughly cupped

my breast.

“Stop,” I managed, even as my nipples hardened against my will, a physical betrayal that brought a predatory smile to Drake’s lips.

“Your mouth says no,” he growled, pinching my nipple hard enough to make me arch against him, “but your body knows better.” His other hand forced my thighs apart, fingers digging into the soft flesh hard enough to bruise. “See? Your body knows who it belongs to, even if

your mind refuses to accept it.”

“Fuck you,” I spat, tears of humiliation burning behind my eyes as my body responded to his touch despite my hatred. “This isn’t desire,

it’s biology. Don’t confuse the two, you arrogant prick.”

He pressed his hardness against me through our clothes, making his intentions unmistakable. “That’s the plan,” Drake growled, his breath hot against my ear as his teeth grazed the sensitive spot where my neck met my shoulder.

The shrill ring of a phone cut through the tension, startling us both. Drake froze as the ringtone-not mine, but his-continued

insistently.

“Ignore it,” he growled, his mouth returning to my neck, teeth scraping dangerously close to breaking skin.

But the phone kept ringing, and after the fourth ring, Drake cursed, pulling back slightly to fish the device from his pocket. His eyes flicked to the screen, and I saw the momentary distraction cross his face.

“Vera,” he muttered, the name like acid on my skin.

That split second of divided attention was all I needed. I gathered every ounce of strength in my core and legs, planted my feet against

his chest, and kicked out with explosive force.

The blow caught Drake completely off-guard. His eyes widened in shock as my feet connected solidly with his sternum, sending him flying backward. His bulky frame crashed against the car door, which flew open under his weight.

Drake tumbled out of the car, landing on the gravel with a satisfying thud and a stream of curses. His phone skidded across the road, still

ringing.

I didn’t hesitate. In one fluid motion, I rolled forward, grabbed the keys he’d dropped in the scuffle, and launched myself into the front seat. My fingers trembled with adrenaline as I jammed the key into the ignition. The engine roared to life just as Drake staggered to his

feet.

“ELSA!” he bellowed, his voice a thunderous Alpha command that made my spine stiffen. “DON’T YOU DARE-”

I slammed the locks down with one hand and threw the car into drive with the other. His furious face appeared at the window, eyes

blazing with rage and disbelief. His fist connected with the glass, making it shudder but not break.

“Fuck you, Drake!” I shouted, knowing he could hear me. I flashed him my middle finger, a gesture of defiance that felt so goddamn good

after years of subservience.

I stomped on the gas pedal, and the car lurched forward with a spray of gravel that pelted Drake’s expensive suit. The look on his face- pure, impotent rage-was worth every second of humiliation I’d endured. In the rearview mirror, I watched him stumble back, then start

running after the car, his roar echoing in the night.

“ELSA! GET BACK HERE NOW!”

The sound of his command faded as I accelerated, putting more distance between us with every second. A wild laugh bubbled up from my chest-part hysteria, part exhilaration. My hands shook on the steering wheel, but not from fear. From power. From freedom.

For once, I had defied him completely, left him standing helpless and raging in my dust. The sensation was intoxicating, better than any

high I’d ever experienced.
