Aurora Walton and Lucas Carter novel Chapter 1718

Yvonne hadn’t even finished speaking before Edwin cut her off.

“Enough. You don’t need to say all that. I know exactly what you mean.”

His expression grew even colder.

“You’re saying all this just to tell me there’s no possibility between us, right?”

He gave a dry, humorless laugh. “No need to pat me on the head and call me a nice guy. I know exactly what you’re thinking.”

Yvonne went quiet, lifting a hand to awkwardly rub the tip of her nose.

She hadn’t expected him to understand everything so clearly. Didn’t that mean he’d seen straight through her earlier attempts to soften the blow?

The thought made her feel even more embarrassed.

“Since you already know everything, then there’s no need for me to go on.”

She glanced toward her office and deliberately said, “As you can see, I don’t have anything here to host you with. I just got back from overseas, and you know that. Why don’t you head back first? Once I settle in, I’ll definitely treat you properly later.”

“I came all the way from overseas just to hear you say this nonsense?”

Edwin stepped in, closing the distance between them.

Seeing him like that, Yvonne kept backing up, her voice even starting to stutter.

“What… what are you trying to do?”

Edwin moved in closer, then wrapped an arm around her waist. “Don’t you already know what I’m trying to do?”

“I don’t know!”

She raised her voice on purpose, trying to cover up the fear rising inside her.

“All I know is that I have my own career now, and I don’t have time to stand here arguing with you.”

After saying that, Yvonne pointed toward the door.
