Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 164

On the other side of town, Wesley walked Charlotte downstairs. Just as she was about to get into her car, he suddenly spoke up. “Miss Sterling, what do you think of my mother?”

Charlotte blinked, caught off guard by the question. “Your mother? She’s wonderful. Why do you ask?”

“That’s not exactly what I meant.” Wesley’s lips curled into a gentle smile. “I don’t know why, but you feel familiar to me. You’re different from other women I know. If you don’t mind... would you consider being my mother’s goddaughter?”

Charlotte stared at him in surprise. “Me?”

“You’ve seen how much she cares about you—almost more than she cares about me,” Wesley said with a shrug. “Ever since she met you here in the city, she’s been happier than I’ve seen her since we left Eldermere. If my father and the rest of the family knew about this, they’d be delighted.”

Charlotte lowered her gaze, an inexplicable sense of foreboding tugging at her heart. She couldn’t explain it, but something told her she’d regret saying no.

“Is this awkward for you?” Wesley asked gently.

She looked back up at him. “Not at all. It’s just… I’ll be leaving the city soon. I’m worried—”

“That’s nothing to worry about. Wherever you go, just let us know. We’ll visit. It’s just a plane ride away,” Wesley replied, unconcerned by the distance.

Charlotte gave a small nod, her lips curling into a smile. “So… should I start calling you ‘big brother’ now?”

Hearing her say those words, Wesley was momentarily dazed. For a brief instant, it felt as though the girl in front of him really was his little sister.

But the baby from all those years ago… she’d been stillborn. How could his sister possibly be alive?

After bidding Wesley goodbye, Charlotte drove away.

Back at the hospital, her spirits were so high she practically skipped down the hallway, a visible smile lighting up her already striking features, adding a certain softness to her beauty.

This didn’t go unnoticed. A man happened to catch sight of her at just the right moment. One glance, and he couldn’t look away.

Tricia, standing beside Evander, was startled when he suddenly trailed off in the middle of their conversation. Following his gaze, her mood plummeted in an instant. Her face twisted with jealousy.

Charlotte, oblivious, looked up and noticed Evander and Tricia standing near the nurses’ desk.

He was, as always, impeccably dressed, tall and composed, a man impossible to ignore even in a crowded room.
