Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 169

Evander fixed his gaze on her, his brows drawing together. “Upset I interrupted you and Jonathan?”

Without so much as a glance his way, she shot back, “Were you happy when I interrupted you and Tricia?”

Before her words had even faded, his large hand caught her by the chin, forcing her to face him. “Charlotte, we’re not divorced yet.”

“When will we be?”

“In a hurry, are you?”

“Yes.” She didn’t hesitate for a second.

It was obvious—she couldn’t wait to get away from him.

His grip on her tightened, his eyes burning into her face as if her answer was the last thing he wanted to hear.

After a moment, he spoke, voice low. “I’m not in a hurry.”

A tightness squeezed her chest. “Are you playing games with me?”

He let out a short laugh, but gave no answer.

Charlotte stared at him, stunned, searching his face. Something dawned on her. Her eyes cooled as she met his gaze. “Was everything that happened today your doing? Just to push me?”

Evander’s smile vanished, his eyes chilling. “You think I orchestrated all this?”

“If not you, then why did you show up at the Sterlings’? You never showed any interest before, did you?”

Not once, in all the years.

And just last night, he’d warned her. Today, Abigail and Adelaide suddenly turned up out of nowhere. Too much of a coincidence.

“Miss Sterling, you’ve got it all wrong. That’s not—”

“Enough.” Evander cut off his assistant, voice cold as steel. He pulled her closer, his eyes hard. “Since you’re so convinced, maybe I should just do what you’re accusing me of.”

He released her and told Natalie, “Get in touch with the Sterlings.”

Charlotte grabbed at his sleeve, disbelief etched on her face. “Evander, what are you doing?!”

He enunciated each word, slow and deliberate. “Exactly what you think I’m doing.”

Natalie reached for her phone. Panic flared in Charlotte’s eyes. She clung to Evander, her voice trembling. “I shouldn’t have doubted you. I’m sorry. I take it back!”
