Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 179

By the time Evander returned to Tranquility Manor, it was already half past eleven. When he stepped inside, the living room and bedroom were shrouded in darkness.

He flicked on a concealed light and pushed open the bedroom door. In the soft, golden glow from the hallway, he could just make out the sleeping figure on the bed. For a brief moment, his features tightened.

He stood by the bed for a while, then slipped off his jacket and headed to the guest room next door to shower.

The next morning, a thin shaft of sunlight slipped through the gap in the curtains, landing just above the headboard.

Charlotte slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was the man’s handsome, sharp-edged face.

His arm was draped over her hip, careful not to press on her stomach or waist. The way he held her, so gentle and deliberate, made it seem as if he truly cherished her, as if he was afraid she might break.

Such a beautiful scene—newlyweds, tangled up in each other, lost in their honeymoon haze.

If only things were that simple.

But the distance between them felt insurmountable, as if an ocean separated their hearts.

And she had no desire to cross it anymore.

Snapping back to reality, Charlotte gently moved his arm away. The motion woke him.

He fixed his gaze on her, eyes unreadable. “You certainly slept well.”

She kept her expression calm. “I can’t help it. I’m used to dozing off once it’s late enough.” In the past, sleep had never come easily. Most nights, she’d wait up for him until the early hours, and when exhaustion finally hit, she’d crash on the couch instead.

She used to be so obsessive back then.

But being too obsessed never leads anywhere good.

She expected him to say something more, but to her surprise, he only let out a low chuckle. “Being pregnant does make you sleepy.”

Pregnant?

Charlotte froze. “What… are you talking about?”

“You want me to remind you what you bought at the drugstore?” Evander replied, utterly unhurried as he sat up and started getting dressed.

She sat up too, watching his silhouette disappear into the walk-in closet. “You went to the pharmacy that day to ask about me?”
