Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 192

“I already called him,” Miranda said. “He said he had something to take care of.”

But honestly, whether Evander showed up or not didn’t matter. After all, the big event today was the so-called “happy union” with the Jensen family.

Yet as time ticked by, Wesley was nowhere to be seen.

Half an hour later, Ilse’s smile had frozen on her face. She awkwardly dialed Wesley’s number, but the phone went straight to voicemail.

She tried again—same result. The phone was off.

Color drained from Ilse’s cheeks as a troubling thought flashed through her mind: had they been played?

Grandmother’s brow furrowed in a deep scowl, but before she could speak, Miranda let out a small, incredulous laugh. “Didn’t you all say Mr. Rayburn agreed to the engagement? We’ve been waiting all this time—so where is he?”

“Mom, just call again! Mr. Rayburn must have been delayed by something important!” Genevieve chimed in, completely oblivious.

Jensen echoed her, sounding impatient.

Ilse’s composure finally collapsed. Her face darkened to an ugly shade of gray.

Jensen and Genevieve exchanged a look. In that instant, they understood.

“So this is what you call Mr. Rayburn agreeing to the engagement?” Grandmother’s voice was cold, her expression souring. “Jensen, Ilse, be honest with me. Was it true?”

“Mom, I…”

Ilse fell silent, and Jensen hesitated, uncertain whether to reveal the truth.

Grandmother’s frown deepened. “Genevieve, you tell me.”

Genevieve bit her lip, her voice trembling. “He… he promised me, I heard it myself!”

“And you think that’s enough?”
