Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 214

“I heard that before the police even found my brother, he’d already managed to escape. There was a girl with him too, but I’m not sure if it was Charlotte,” Genevieve said, shrugging. “After all, my brother came back with a high fever and was delirious for days because of the whole kidnapping thing. When he finally woke up, he couldn’t remember anything about it, and my grandmother made sure no one ever brought it up again.”

Tricia’s face darkened as she listened.

With the Howards being such an influential family, the old woman already looked down on her—so how could she ever accept Charlotte?

So that’s what happened.

Evander forgot about being kidnapped, forgot about the person who saved him…

For Charlotte, that was actually a blessing.

The next morning, the doctor arrived right on time to change Evander’s bandages.

Charlotte was just about to head out when Evander grabbed her wrist. “You do it.”

She glanced at the doctor, who smiled and stepped back. “Mrs. Howard, I hear you’re a doctor yourself. I trust you.”

Lana walked the doctor out, and soon enough, it was just the two of them alone in the bedroom.

Evander narrowed his eyes. “What’s wrong? You can stab me but can’t handle changing a bandage?”

Charlotte bit her lip, steeling herself. She knelt in front of him, reaching for ointment and fresh gauze from the medical kit. “I’m not exactly gentle. Brace yourself.”

Evander watched her every move, the corners of his mouth twitching with a hint of a smile. “I handled it just fine when you stabbed me. This is nothing.”

“If you hadn’t pushed her away, you wouldn’t have gotten stabbed in the first place. This was your own doing.”

His smile faded a little. “Planning to spend the rest of your life behind bars?”

“Wouldn’t be the worst thing,” she said flatly.

Her nonchalant tone made his expression darken. “Charlotte, don’t ever do something so reckless again.”

She gave a noncommittal hum.
