Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 229

Why did it have to be her?

Evander’s emotions were a tangled mess. Guilt over Tricia from six years ago clashed violently with the disgust and hatred that had surged up now, after the truth came to light. The conflict threatened to tear him apart.

He’d planned to make Tricia pay, to finally settle things between them once and for all. But fate had found a way to twist the knife—he ended up with her.

Natalie glanced at him, watching as he seemed to fall to pieces. She muttered under her breath, “You always played favorites, and now look—guess it’s just fate catching up to you…”

Evander shot her a look, forcing his expression flat. He strode toward the couch and tossed a stack of files onto the coffee table. “I remember the company has a project in Riverspire City next month, right?”

Natalie snapped out of her thoughts and nodded. “Yes, but I thought you’d turned it down?”

He twisted his wedding ring absentmindedly. “Not anymore. Move the project up.”

She hesitated for half a second, realizing he must be heading to Riverspire City himself. “What about Tricia…?”

“Have someone keep an eye on her.”

Natalie said nothing more and quietly slipped out of the bedroom.

Evander’s gaze dropped to his wedding ring, his eyes growing darker, deeper.

In his world, divorce wasn’t an option.

Rain hammered Riverspire City all through the night.

A flash of lightning turned the window white as day, splitting the sky in two. The crash of thunder jolted Charlotte awake.

She clicked on the lamp by her bed; warm yellow light chased away the shadows in the room. The digital clock on the nightstand glowed: 5:00 a.m.

Charlotte pressed a clammy hand to her forehead; she was drenched in cold sweat.

It had been years since she’d dreamed about that nightmarish ordeal.

And yet, here it was again.

By sunrise, the rain had stopped.
