Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 566

Evander let out a low chuckle, clearly in high spirits. He smoothly pulled her back into his arms, resting his chin on the crown of her head and taking a deep breath. Her unique, clean scent filled him with an immense sense of peace. "As long as I can be by your side, I'd do anything. I'd be your loyal lapdog if you asked."

Charlotte was speechless.

He paused, then asked with a hint of cautious probing, "So... how much more time are we talking?"

Settling into a more comfortable position in his arms, Charlotte idly fiddled with a button on his shirt. After a moment's thought, she said slowly, "For now... how about one more day a week."

"Just one day? Aren't you being a little stingy?"

Evander's voice was laced with obvious dissatisfaction, but it was overshadowed by a smile he couldn't suppress.

"Don't even think about bargaining with me," Charlotte retorted, looking up to glare at him.

He immediately surrendered, knowing when to push and when to yield. "One day it is."

Besides, he'd just have to keep up his good behavior and work to 'earn' back the rest of his time sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, at The Capital Medical Center, Rosemary Howard was fast asleep, her back to the door. The door creaked open, and a figure in a doctor's white coat slipped inside, pulling it partially shut behind him. The room plunged into shadows.

He moved to the bedside with feather-light steps, his gaze falling upon Rosemary's sleeping face. In the faint moonlight filtering through the window, the cold, emotionless eyes above his surgical mask were visible.

It was Jensen Howard.

Jensen's hand trembled as he pulled a small vial from his pocket. "Mom," he whispered, "I didn't want to do this. You forced my hand."

He stepped closer and deftly swapped the medication on the bedside table with the vial he was holding.

After confirming she hadn't stirred, Jensen turned and slipped out of the room as silently as he had entered, a chilling aura trailing behind him. The only sound was the soft click of the door latch, which quickly dissolved into the silence of the hallway.

...

The next morning, Charlotte had just arrived at the institute when Judd summoned her to his office.
