Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 575

"Pfft!"

Sean choked, spraying the tea he had just sipped, and stared in disbelief at his slightly bashful daughter.

Evander was just as surprised.

The word "engaged" echoed in his mind, refusing to fade.

His hands, resting on his knees, unconsciously clenched into fists, his knuckles turning white. An irrepressible joy surged in his eyes.

If not for the others present, he would have pulled her into his arms and asked her again and again if she was serious.

A look of delight instantly bloomed on Mr. Rayburn's face. "Excellent! This is wonderful news! Sean, what do you think?"

Mr. Rayburn's voice broke Sean out of his momentary stupor. He snapped back to reality, his expression a complicated mix. "...Does my opinion even matter anymore?"

"Then it's settled!" Mr. Rayburn declared, slapping the table decisively.

On the way back, the car was filled with a heavy silence.

Even without looking at her father's face, Charlotte could guess how upset he was. She had acted impulsively.

"Dad," she called out.

Sean didn't answer.

She spoke softly, "Are you mad at me?"

"How could I dare be mad at you?" Sean said, staring out the window with a gloomy expression. "Did you do anything wrong? No, it's always someone else's fault. That ill-mannered brat… all my life, I've hated men who use sweet talk to charm other people's daughters. He's got all the right lines, doesn't he? I don't even know what he really looks like, and you're already smitten with him wearing that stupid mask?"

"I heard they practice a type of black magic in Southeast Asia… some kind of curse. He didn't put one on you, did he?"

The driver couldn't help but purse his lips in amusement.

Chairman Sean was getting a little too carried away…

"Dad, actually…" Charlotte took a deep breath, deciding it was time to stop hiding things. "There's something I've been wanting to tell you for a long time."

"You'd better not," Sean said, holding up a hand to stop her. He sighed. "I'm sure whatever you're going to say is something I don't want to hear."
