Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 654

Lilith’s clenched fist relaxed at her side. She let out a breath and turned to Genevieve. “Genevieve, stop trying to use me. I’m not like you.”

Genevieve blinked, then adopted an indifferent tone. “I don’t know what you mean. I was just giving you a little reminder.”

“If you really didn’t mean anything by it, you wouldn’t have said it,” Lilith retorted, offering her no courtesy. “Do you think I don’t know what you’re up to? Yes, I have feelings for Judd, but I’m not going to target Charlotte just because he likes her. My feelings for him are my own business. What does that have to do with Charlotte?”

“No wonder you and Tricia got along so well. You blame others for your own incompetence. It’s no surprise Grandma Rosemary and Evander can’t stand you.”

Lilith shot her a dismissive glare and walked away without a backward glance.

Her words, sharp as a knife, struck Genevieve to the core.

Genevieve’s face went white, and she was on the verge of tears from the sheer humiliation. That look of contempt, of being utterly looked down upon, filled her with a burning hatred.

...

Judd drove Charlotte to the house where the Sterling family was staying. As she stepped out of the car and looked around at the familiar surroundings, she felt a wave of disorientation.

“So this is your old home in the Capital?” Judd asked, looking at her.

Charlotte pulled her gaze back and nodded. “It hasn’t changed much.” She then added, “Do you want to come in for a bit? My brother is here; you’ve met him.”

Judd shrugged. “Well, it would be rude to refuse.”

Charlotte walked to the door and rang the bell.

After a moment, the door opened, and she was momentarily taken aback by the clean-cut young man with a buzz cut standing before her.

Judd lifted his gaze to her. “This baby… you’re not planning on telling Evander?”

Charlotte fell silent for a moment. “You heard what he said. There’s no point in him knowing. I can afford to raise this child on my own.”

“Perhaps he had his reasons.”

She looked out the window. “He pushes me away when there’s trouble, then coaxes me back when it’s over? I’m not a pet.”

Judd traced the rim of his cup with a finger. “Maybe this situation was beyond his control. He might have felt it would put you in danger.”

Charlotte’s head snapped back to him, her expression puzzled. “Why are you defending him all of a sudden?”

“I just want you to think it through. Evander has pursued you for so long; he wouldn’t just change his mind overnight. He must have spent the last few days preparing himself for this. If it ends just like this, will you really be able to let it go? Besides, he’s the father of the child you’re carrying.”
