Simon fully expected Maeve to reject him outright, but instead, her voice drifted through the line with a dangerous edge of amusement. "Absolutely any demand?"
Though he knew she was plotting something ruthless, Simon had no choice but to confirm.
"If you save him, name your price."
A soft, chilling laugh echoed through the receiver.
"Since the Grovers are showing such touching sincerity, I suppose I can make the trip. Just remember, you owe me a massive favor for this."
As Maeve ended the call, Andres, who had been quietly watching her, asked, "Are you really going to help them?"
Maeve casually slipped on her designer jacket. "Why wouldn't I?"
Andres's gaze turned somber. "Barton's crash was exactly the outcome Slade wanted. He orchestrated this to avenge Jasper."
Andres knew Slade's temperament perfectly.
He was usually relaxed and easygoing, but the moment someone threatened the people he cared about, his retaliation was apocalyptic.
Especially since Jasper meant everything to him.
Orchestrating a devastating crash to eliminate Barton was exactly the kind of ruthless play Slade would make.
Maeve adjusted her collar in the mirror.
"Whether Slade caused it or not, he got the exact result he wanted."
"And knowing him, he didn't intend to kill Barton outright. That would just invite a messy homicide investigation."
"By stepping in, I'm cleaning up Slade's loose ends. Plus, I get to collect a little interest from the Grovers while I'm at it."
Andres stood up. "I'm coming with you."
Maeve put a hand on his chest, stopping him.
"Don't you have a major board meeting in thirty minutes? I can handle this minor errand on my own."
Andres frowned, already reaching for his phone. "I'll have Hans reschedule the meeting."
