It was the fourth time Luka had shown up at the hospital to clean up Ansel's mess.
Ever since he took Maeve's meds, Ansel had been upgraded to a private suite, and he looked stronger by the day. Luka hadn't told his wife or daughter about the deal with Maeve.
First: the property he'd given Maeve hadn't truly belonged to the Morales family anyway. The original owner had been his ex-wife, Serenity. Jasper Jett had only made Luka sign a notarized transfer document so Maeve could legally complete the paperwork.
If it wasn't really the family's asset, Luka saw no reason to drag the family into it.
Second: Isla was his legal wife, but she didn't have a clear picture of everything under his name. He didn't want her finding out he'd transferred Maeve two hundred million. Isla would nag, and then she'd pick a fight just to feel like she'd won something.
In Isla's version of events, their son was improving because she'd donated money and supplies to charities until heaven finally took pity on the Morales family.
The truth was uglier.
The second Ansel could move around again, he started calling his friends to come hang out in his room.
His "room" was a luxury private suite in a boutique hospital—closer to a five-star hotel than a ward.
The friends he kept were all rich kids, the kind born into money and raised to believe money erased consequences. They did whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted.
And in a private hospital like this, there was no shortage of young, pretty nurses.
When a beautiful nurse came in to give Ansel an injection, his eyes lit up. He and his friends started heckling her, making crude jokes while she stood there flustered and trapped.
The more frightened she looked, the more it entertained them.
Nurses complained to administration in tears.
Nothing happened.
It wasn't that management didn't care. It was that they couldn't afford to care.
Luka was the hospital's largest shareholder. Ansel was the heir. If he wanted to harass a nurse—or do something worse—who exactly was going to stop him?
The fourth nurse was a recent graduate, barely out of school. When she came in with her tray, Ansel suddenly shoved her down onto the bed.
