Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 144

Andres didn't feel entitled to judge his father's past relationships.

Calling them "relationships" was generous. Most of it had been for show.

Back then, Caden had looks, money, and power. He could have anything. He didn't need to lose his freedom for any one woman.

Why he married Andres's mother in the end… maybe that had been real love.

Maeve's expression cooled. "I could never accept a partner who flirts with everyone and leaves a trail of kids behind like some serial heartbreaker."

Andres looked at her with a seriousness that didn't leave room for doubt. "I won't be like him."

The depth in his gaze made Maeve's heart give a small, treacherous twitch.

Tonight, Andres was all confidence and edge, turning his charm on like he meant to win.

For a split second, Maeve wondered if she was actually falling for him.

They'd shared a bed for so long. He was devastatingly handsome—almost unfair. Even if her heart were carved from stone, it would be hard not to crack in a world like this.

So this was what people meant—desire really was a blade.

Before leaving, Maeve went to the restroom and took a call from Naomi, who wanted her to pick a time—Declan was offering to treat her to dinner.

Maeve held the phone between her shoulder and ear while she washed her hands. "If it's about him being saved at the hospital, it's unnecessary. He helped me once, I repaid the favor. We're even."

"And I'm swamped lately. I don't have time for dinner appointments. Tell Mr. Fulton not to waste his money."

After a few more words, she hung up and left the restroom.

A group of young men came toward her in the hallway. One of them was bragging, loud and proud.

"Last night's girl was insane. We ran her through every toy start to finish."
