Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 256

"I never would've guessed," Sofia murmured, a little dazed, "that after all these twists and turns, Serenity's daughter would end up marrying my son."

Maeve reached for Sofia's wrist. "Let me check your pulse first."

Sofia was still sick—this wasn't the time to get worked up. Catching up could wait until her condition was stable.

This time, before Andres could correct Maeve's form of address, Sofia spoke up herself.

"Since you and Andres are husband and wife, you should call me Mom from now on."

Maybe because of Serenity, Sofia's first impression of Maeve was unusually warm. Serenity had always been a woman with a steady moral compass. The child she raised couldn't be anything less than exceptional.

Maeve smiled faintly. "Andres probably already explained what our marriage was built on."

"When we got married, we didn't even know each other. So before moving in together, Andres suggested we keep it quiet."

"I agreed. Keeping it private saves a lot of trouble, so I've tried not to let too many people know."

Sofia turned a scolding look on her son. "Keeping it quiet was your idea?"

Andres had nothing to say.

Back when he'd suggested it, he'd never imagined he'd end up falling so hard for the girl.

"Mom," he said at last, "I'll pick the right time to make it public."

Maeve thought, Oh, thank you so much—please don't.

She had zero interest in the empty title of "Mrs. White."

Deliberately steering away from the topic, she focused on Sofia's pulse. "Your temperature's come down. Tomorrow we'll redo the tests and see how your numbers are trending."

"If they're improving, we can consider the next step. If not, we'll have to change the treatment plan."
