Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 317

He and Maeve were legally married. But because they'd kept it quiet, misunderstandings kept piling up.

He couldn't stand people constantly slapping the "mistress" label onto Maeve.

Maeve didn't want to keep going down that road.

"People have mouths. Let them talk."

"I don't care, so why are you obsessing over it?"

"If someone pushes, just say we're dating. Done."

Maeve's heart wasn't made of stone.

After all this time, she could feel how much effort Andres put into her—he showed up when it mattered, and when trouble hit, he didn't hesitate.

A man like that deserved a woman's sincerity.

But there was a part of Maeve that had gone numb a long time ago. More precisely, she should've died a year ago.

The only reason she was still breathing was because she was running on sheer stubbornness—collecting every last piece of human garbage who'd wronged her, so she could drag them to hell with her.

Someone like her had lost the right to love.

She could work with Andres. Be friends with him.

But love was out of the question.

As if he could see the chill in her eyes, Andres felt a tight ache in his chest.

They were almost at the restaurant when his phone lit up with a text.

Anya.

"The Shadow Healer has been found. Want to meet?"

Andres actually laughed.

"So she really is following the script."

He didn't want some irrelevant nobody ruining dinner with Maeve, so he put his phone away without replying.

Maeve pressed down on his hand before he could fully pocket it.

"Reply. Set a location. We'll meet her now."

Andres glanced at her. "So we're not eating?"
