Andres hadn't wanted to attend tonight's dinner.
The invitation came from one of his father's old friends—a heavyweight in Aethelburg's financial world.
Even if it was only for his father's sake, Andres couldn't refuse.
The venue was the Sapphire Lounge.
Which, annoyingly, dragged old memories up with it.
The last time he'd been here, he and Maeve hadn't been close.
He'd spotted her having dinner with classmates, and on a whim he'd ended up at the same table.
It felt like it had happened ages ago.
It also felt like yesterday.
After parking, Hans quickened his pace until he was at Andres's side.
In a low voice, he warned, "Mr. Andres—that vehicle looks like Mr. Simon's."
Andres followed the direction of his finger.
A black luxury van had pulled up not far away.
Escorted by an assistant and bodyguards, a strikingly handsome man walked in.
Simon Grover.
The second Simon's face entered Andres's line of sight, Andres's decent mood curdled.
He signaled to Hans and the security behind him. "Let's go."
People who didn't matter weren't worth his time.
But Simon called after him. "Running off already, Mr. Andres? An old friend shows up and you don't even want to catch up?"
Andres turned back, meeting his gaze with a half-smile that wasn't friendly. "Are we friends?"
Simon pretended to think hard. "I almost became your brother-in-law. Tell me that's not close."
Andres's eyes cooled. "Spread lies like that again and I can sue you for defamation."
Simon's smile deepened. "So desperate to cut ties with me… is that because of your new sweetheart?"
