Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 74

Maeve twirled her pen out of habit, wandering from stone to stone without any obvious purpose.

Carson—who'd drifted close at some point—asked, "That scene in the jewelry store… you orchestrated it, didn't you?"

Maeve glanced at him. "What makes you say that?"

Carson nodded toward her hand. "I saw you flick that pen. Precise. Clean. One strike, right on target."

"And you expect me to believe that 'school for five-to-eight-year-olds' teaches hidden weapons?"

Maeve said, "When I was a kid out in the country, I got good with a slingshot."

Carson laughed. "Sounds like you had an interesting childhood."

"Small towns can be a lot rougher, and a lot more interesting, than big cities."

Once they reached the top floor, Maeve casually removed her mask.

The first time Carson saw her face clearly, his heart raced.

He hadn't expected that.

No wonder Michael—usually indifferent to women—had looked ready to storm the jewelry store and flatten somebody.

After finishing with the manager, Michael headed straight for Maeve. "See one you like, tell me. I'll cover it."

Maeve glanced at the price tags—some a few thousand, others well into the millions. "I'm not letting you pick up that tab."

Michael scoffed. "Don't be like that. You fixed my whole arm. Paying you back is the least I can do."

And it was strange—after Maeve had pressed hard on one spot that day, the old injury that had tortured him for three years had actually vanished.

He'd gone to specialists, physical therapists—nothing had helped much.

He'd assumed it would follow him for life.

Then some young girl solved it like it was nothing.

Carson caught the implication. "Miss Vance knows medicine too?"

Michael answered for her. "She did a summer job at a clinic. Her hands are incredible."
