Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 80

It was a warning shot aimed at Declan: The woman on your arm is promiscuous. Don't be fooled.

What Anya didn't understand was that her little "cleverness" only made Andres dislike her more.

"Miss Morales," Andres said, voice calm but cutting, "if you don't know the full story, don't comment. I assume you understand that."

Even if his marriage to Maeve wasn't public, he couldn't tolerate Anya dragging Maeve with that tone.

Anya blinked, startled that he would rebuke her for Maeve.

"I—I'm just telling the truth."

Declan didn't follow Anya's script at all.

He turned to Maeve with an innocent expression. "Why did she call you her sister?"

Maeve lazily fanned herself. "My father cheated while he was married. Got his mistress pregnant, then used the kids to claw his way up."

She tipped her chin toward Anya. "Technically, we share blood. Half-sisters, if you want to be generous."

Anya's face twisted with fury. "Maeve—watch your mouth."

She'd been raised as an Aethelburg socialite for twenty years. No one dared throw filth like that at her.

Maeve smiled, unbothered. "Did I say anything untrue? The difference between a child born in marriage and one born outside it is simple: one is legal, one isn't."

"There's a term for a kid born out of wedlock," Maeve went on lightly. "Illegitimate child. And in plain language? A bastard."

She fluttered her fan, delighted. "And lucky you—I'm plain language."

Hans tried not to laugh. He failed.

He really couldn't help it—Miss Vance had a gift for shattering expectations in the most spectacular ways.

Hans's laughter poured gasoline on Anya's rage.

She looked at Andres, eyes demanding: *Your people are disrespecting me—are you going to do something or not?*
