Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 91

It was a small black pellet, matte and featureless, giving away nothing about what it was made of.

Maeve would take it back to the lab later and figure out exactly what it was.

The door pushed open from the outside. Anya walked in like she owned the place. "Maeve. We need to talk."

Maeve moved fast, sliding the half-finished sample into the hollow barrel of a click-pen as if it belonged there.

She shot Anya a skeptical look. "What on earth could you and I possibly have to talk about?"

Anya shut the door behind her and came straight out with it. "Let's talk about you and Mr. Andres. What are you, exactly?"

Maeve gave a small, amused laugh. "Why don't you ask him? Can't bring yourself to? Or are you scared to?"

Anya didn't bother pretending to be polite anymore. "I like him. Everyone in Aethelburg knows that."

Maeve tipped her head. "And?"

Anya's tone turned downright bossy. "If he's the man I want, then have some sense and stay away from him. Don't go fluttering your eyelashes and showing off in front of a man who isn't yours."

Maeve stared at her like she'd started speaking a different language. "Are you sure those words sounded sane in your head?"

Anya's eyes narrowed. "What did you just say?"

Maeve crossed her long legs and took a slow sip of her drink. "You made a public spectacle of yourself out there. Did it ever occur to you that maybe the problem is… you?"

Maeve made a small circling gesture near her head, the kind that didn't need translating.

The memory of the auction hall flashed through Anya's mind. Humiliation and fury flooded her face until her cheeks burned red.

"Was that you?" she snapped. "Were you the reason I kept getting humiliated?"

She suddenly remembered seeing Maeve coming out of Andres's cabin earlier—how Maeve had warned her. Anya had assumed it was bluffing.

Apparently not.
