Divorce me I'm done serving you (Ayla) novel Chapter 841

James was feeling rattled all over again. "You're sitting too far away. I'm worried you won't hear me when I talk."

"Once your friends get here, things will liven up."

"My friend just got on the plane. He's flying back from overseas, so it'll be at least ten hours. Honestly, no point waiting on him."

Halle was at a loss for words.

Damn, he wasn't even bothering to keep up the act anymore!

"Do you still want to hear about my miserable, sob-story life or not? If you do, scoot closer." James was acting like a total maniac. "When I bring up depressing stuff, I lose all my energy, and when I lose energy, my voice gets really soft."

Halle finally shifted in her seat, moving up by two spots, still keeping a buffer between them.

That cheered James up just a little. Of course, the smile never left his face. He was the picture of an effortlessly charming rich heir, and you couldn't catch a single hint of his actual emotions.

The food came out, and James suggested they eat first to take the edge off their hunger. Halle started eating slowly, and by the time she was almost done, James still hadn't said a word, like he was just genuinely there for the meal. She finally couldn't take it anymore. "Are you actually going to share or what?"

"Have you been less swamped lately?" James noticed her face had thinned out, and even her figure had lost a little of its fullness.

As a mature "older" man, James had to admit he was hopelessly into Halle's curves.

"Yeah, things have eased up a bit." It had been almost six months since the company's upgraded AI model had launched, and Halle had finally stopped working around the clock and gone back to a normal workload.

James said, "Watching you live this comfortable life is honestly making me feel things."

Halle had figured out at this point that you couldn't have a normal conversation with James. Every word had to be loaded, dripping with passive-aggressive sarcasm, every sentence a little jab. So she gave him the same treatment back. "That's how petty people think. I get it. I'm young, killing it in my career and my personal life. People are bound to be jealous."

James burst out laughing, his shoulders shaking from laughing so hard.

He'd only become interested in Halle after they slept together, and the more he learned about her, the more he realized she was even more interesting than he'd thought.

Halle was young but worldly, and she kept her thoughts buried deep. She was like a heater that warmed the whole room, all friendly smiles for everyone, except you could never tell if any of it was genuine. And it was even harder to figure out why she was clinging to a piece-of-trash fiancé.

Halle had a sharp, decisive personality with strong opinions. She'd been all kinds of fired up over the Ayla and Troy situation, ready to knock some sense into them, yet when it came to her own fiancé, she made choices that defied all logic.
