Divorce me I'm done serving you (Ayla) novel Chapter 850

Halle had carried that secret buried deep and never told a soul.

Not long after, the pretty young woman showed up at Benjamin's side at a company event, introduced as a colleague. Amelia was right there.

Halle assumed Amelia didn't know. She was wrong. Amelia knew everything, and neither parent cared.

Later, Halle discovered Amelia had someone on the side too.

Every time Halle came home and watched her parents perform their happy, loving couple routine, she felt like she was hallucinating. The whole thing disgusted her.

Fake things never lasted. Eventually both parents drifted toward their separate lives, their separate families. Those families included half-siblings Halle had never asked for, every last one of them circling the family money like vultures.

Neither of her parents had ever planned for her future. Even the loving-couple act was just muscle memory from years of protecting shared business interests.

Halle had been fighting for survival since she was a child. If she didn't, she'd lose her standing, so she kept pushing forward, kept growing, always with the feeling that there was no one behind her.

Edgar was different. His family was warm, stable, full of love. Because Edgar had grown up with emotional security and gave affection freely, being with him had made Halle feel safe.

She'd truly believed she'd marry him. Because he'd been exactly what she needed.

It surprised even her, looking back. She came off as someone who played the field and lived for fun, but what she'd actually been chasing all along was something steady. Something that made her feel protected.

Between her childhood and the wreck of things with Edgar, Halle had no sense of security in relationships. If she ever started something new, she'd want someone she could keep fully in hand. A younger guy, the kind she could steer.

James was obviously not that.

The next morning, Halle stepped outside for a run and found Lemon parked in front of her gate. James stood nearby in athletic wear.

Halle greeted Lemon and took off jogging through the neighborhood. James fell in behind her at a leisurely pace, Lemon waddling along beside him.
