Shanley lowered his eyes, his gaze fixed on her hands.
The apple was hacked into a disastrous half-peeled mess.
If someone knew she was peeling fruit, fine. If not, they might think she was imagining peeling his skin off.
It was more than a little terrifying.
"Juniper..."
After a long stalemate, Shanley finally couldn't hold back and spoke in a hoarse voice.
Juniper stopped peeling. She slowly raised her head, her cold eyes locking onto his bruised face.
A few seconds later.
She curled her lips, a faint smile rippling across her face.
Though she was smiling, her eyes held no warmth whatsoever.
Shanley frowned deeply, feeling a chill run through his heart.
Stop smiling.
He was so guilty.
"Are you free, Mr. Schwartz?" Juniper put down the knife, maintaining that shallow smile.
"?" Shanley opened his mouth, not yet grasping what she was getting at, before she added, "Right, you're bedridden and can't go anywhere. You must be free."
With that, Juniper pulled out her phone, opened her photo gallery, and began swiping through pictures, showing them to Shanley one by one.
"What do you think of this one, Mr. Schwartz?" Juniper rested her chin on her left hand and held the phone up with her right, staring at him with a lazy look in her eyes. "Nineteen, plays volleyball."
Shanley's dark eyes instantly iced over as he glared deeply at the smiling girl.
Right in his face?
"Looks like you're not satisfied." Juniper parted her red lips, speaking unhurriedly. "I think this one is decent. Twenty-three, a rising star in finance. Most importantly, he's good-looking."
Shanley took a glance and sneered.
Good-looking, sure.
Smiling like a sly fox.
He looked totally unserious.
