In the next second, all eyes swiveled from Juniper to the projector screen.
Juniper logged into her email and scrolled through her inbox, finally stopping at a date from three years ago.
“This is the source data for my programming project from three years ago.” Leaning against the lectern, Juniper drummed her fingers on the surface, her voice crisp and clear. “You’re all experts in computer science, so it should be easy for you to verify its authenticity.”
As expected, the judges immediately sent a technician to inspect the data. After a few moments of work, the technician turned back to the judges with a grim expression and nodded. It was true. The data was original, containing not just the final project but also various developmental stages. This was the kind of raw work that no one but Miss Null herself could produce.
The judges’ faces grew even darker upon receiving the confirmation.
“And one last thing,” Juniper said, not yet ready to let them off the hook as she continued to tear down their accusations. “Your core argument was that Professor Tucker plagiarized my work? He wasn’t lying; I did give him a physical copy of my research.”
Juniper continued, “I’ve already published that material online for everyone to see. As for the core of Tucker’s program, it is indeed in the same category as mine, but the central algorithm is vastly different. In fact, Tucker’s work is more complete than mine. The core he developed improves upon it, addressing shortcomings I hadn’t considered. Would you call building a more advanced airplane or a better cannon plagiarism?”
The entire hall fell silent, listening to Juniper’s rebuke.
With all the evidence laid out before them, the judges were speechless. They had no choice but to begrudgingly announce, “The winner of this year’s World Programming Competition is Tucker, from Orient Country’s Eclara University, for his work, ‘Glimmer’.”
Juniper was the first to applaud, and the audience slowly followed her lead. A stubborn stereotype had been ingrained in these young minds—that Orient Country was backward, especially in computer science. But deep down, they couldn’t help but admire strength. The applause grew, filling the hall.
“What are you doing just standing there?” Juniper walked over to Tucker, who looked completely dazed, and raised an eyebrow. “Go accept your award.”
Tucker stared cautiously at the girl before him, feeling like he was in a dream. Fifteen minutes ago, she was just Juniper… and now, she was his resurrected Master?
