Hearing Celine’s words, Warren hesitated for only a second before jogging forward and sweeping her into his arms. “Celine…”
The joy of having her back crashed over him, and he couldn’t stop his hands and body from trembling.
Celine let him hold her, the familiar scent of him filling her senses and instantly calming her frayed nerves.
Warren held her tight, his voice raspy as he promised, “I will never leave you again. I won’t let you be scared.”
“Okay,” Celine nodded, pressing herself closer to him, desperate to prove to herself that this wasn’t a dream—that Warren was real.
…
Outside, Juniper was chewing gum, peeking from behind the door with wide eyes, shamelessly eavesdropping.
*Tsk*, she thought. Her medical skills had never been in question before. But watching Celine mess with Warren had almost made her doubt her own sanity. Still, Celine not having amnesia was better than anything.
“What are you peeking at?”
Just as she was getting into it, a magnetic, sexy voice sounded by her ear, and a familiar large hand wrapped around her waist.
Juniper turned, her cheek brushing against Shanley’s jaw as he leaned in.
“Don’t disturb them. Come to the next room, the Director is looking for you.”
“Alright.” Juniper nodded, and after straightening up, she instinctively held out her hand for him to hold.
Shanley smiled indulgently and took her hand, leading her away.
On the way, Juniper pouted, complaining that she hadn’t gotten Warren’s card.
“Was it a lot of money?” Shanley asked, his gaze soft as his thumb gently caressed her cheek.
“Uh-huh.” Juniper arched a brow, looking disappointed. “He said he wanted to thank me. It was probably a thank-you gift.”
