Shanley frowned and took out his phone to call Kurt’s mother, suggesting she get him checked by another doctor. It was better not to delay.
After a Herculean effort, Kurt finally dragged his limping leg into the sports car. He sat in the driver’s seat, gripping the steering wheel and taking deep breaths.
Damn it. Why was his heart beating so fast? Especially when Ebony Fox looked at him—it was completely out of his control.
That wasn't pain he was feeling. Was it… love at first sight?!

After numerous trials, Juniper and Harold finally developed an antidote.
“We’re short on time, so we’ve only run two trials,” Harold said with a frown. “And that was on lab mice. For human trials…”
“There’s no need,” Ebony Fox cut in, a soft smile on her face. “To test this antidote, someone would have to be injected with the poison first. Most people can’t withstand it. Everyone is someone’s precious child; I won’t let anyone else be ruined for my sake.”
She had lived with this condition for over a decade, and just surviving this long was a miracle. Besides, if she hadn't found Juniper and Harold to develop a cure for her, she would likely be dead already. It was a long shot, but she was willing to take it.
Harold remained silent, looking toward the quiet Juniper.
“We’ll do as Ebony Fox says,” Juniper announced, lifting her head, her voice cool and clear. “We’ll administer the antidote in three days.”
She knew Ebony Fox’s character well. She would never endanger others just to save herself. In the next three days, she would work to perform one last safety check on the antidote.
“Alright.” With both sisters in agreement, Harold had no other choice, despite his worries.
After the discussion, Shanley took Juniper’s hand and spoke softly, “My grandma keeps saying she misses you, and my mother…”
The word ‘mother’ made Harold and Ebony Fox’s gazes lock onto him like daggers.
“My mother,” Shanley corrected himself after a pause. “She’s also been nagging me to bring you home. I’ve put it off so many times, but I can’t anymore.”
