"We'll worry. We'll be heartbroken."
Hearing Juniper's words, Ebony Fox's eyes grew moist with tears, her lips trembling. "Juniper..."
"Don't do this again." Juniper took a tissue and gently wiped the corner of her mouth, her tone much softer. "Your sister is a miracle doctor. I can handle a little thing like this."
"Okay." Ebony Fox nodded obediently. After a few seconds, she added, "Actually, I also have a bit of a fever."
She really was good at hiding things. Juniper took a deep breath. "Anything else?"
"No more," Ebony Fox said, looking utterly wronged as she quickly shook her head. "Really, that's it. Just the vomiting and the fever."
Right. That matched. It was likely that both symptoms would appear together.

While Ebony Fox rested, Juniper was in the living room, chewing Harold out. Shanley "hid" in the kitchen, peeling an apple, his ears pricked up to listen, not daring to interrupt.
"It's my fault." Harold took the scolding like a chastened child, not daring to argue back. "She seemed to be doing well, so I thought she was handling it fine. I never thought she'd be forcing herself to endure it."
"Of course it's your fault," Juniper said, mixing some fever-reducing medicine for Ebony. She shot Harold a glare. "If anything happened to Ebony—"
"Have a slice of apple." Shanley emerged at the perfect moment, holding a slice to Juniper's lips. A thin smile touched his lips. "If you need anything done, just tell me."
Juniper glanced at him, but opened her mouth to take it. Harold's "disciplinary lecture" came to an abrupt end.
"I'll go check on Ebony Fox." Harold breathed a sigh of relief and quickly scurried away. As he passed Shanley, he paused, leaned in, and whispered, "Thanks."
