"And they also said..."
Luella started bursting into laughter, practically wheezing.
"Said what?" Juniper pinched the bridge of her nose, asking.
"They said that if Subterra Vanguard agrees to the alliance, Sanctum Holdings will help you completely eradicate the Schwartz Group in Borealia."
"They even mentioned that the Schwartz Group's CEO is your sworn enemy, the leader of the Sigma Network. They promised to hand him over to you on a silver platter for execution."
They had sounded so incredibly proud of themselves. Thinking they were offering her the ultimate gift.
"Has our relationship been exposed?" Juniper asked.
"I wouldn't dare leak a word without your permission," Luella shrugged, shooting a highly provocative glance at Shanley. "Besides, you two don't even have a marriage license yet. Technically, you're not fully official."
Shanley gripped the steering wheel so hard his knuckles turned white, fighting the profound urge to throw this obnoxious man out of the moving vehicle.
Or maybe just poison his coffee.
"Tell them I accept," Juniper said lazily, raising an eyebrow.
"Accept?" Luella looked surprised.
"Sanctum Holdings came out of nowhere, and their crosshairs are locked directly on Subterra Vanguard and Borealia.
Since their stock market ambush failed, they're changing tactics and trying to buy me off. It's a classic divide-and-conquer strategy."
"Makes sense." Luella nodded in agreement, then frowned. "But why wouldn't they try to partner with Mr. Schwartz to wipe us out instead?"
"That's exactly what I intend to find out." Juniper answered.
She wanted to see what kind of monsters were hiding behind the curtain.
She had a strong intuition that Sanctum Holdings...
Was incredibly dangerous.
...
Australis.
A high-end coffee shop.
Juniper stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows on the second floor of a building across the street, peering through a pair of binoculars at the man seated below.
"That's not the boss of Sanctum Holdings."
"How can you tell?" Luella asked, confused. "He has a pretty intimidating aura."
"He's wearing a concealed earpiece," Juniper explained casually, tossing the binoculars to Luella. "A kingpin who has the capital to casually burn billions in the stock market wouldn't look that tense."
