Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 993

A living Silas Blackwood is far more valuable than a dead one. Corvus needs him alive to force Theia's cooperation in the Gene Modification Project. Naturally, he won't let him die.

"Dr. Nocturne. You certainly live up to the rumors," Corvus says with a faint smirk.

"Skip the flattery. Pay up," Juniper says bluntly, wiping her hands clean.

"The rest of the funds will be transferred to your account within ten minutes."

"Good." Satisfied that the patient is stabilized, Juniper begins removing the needles.

Throughout the process, Silas keeps his eyes locked on her, his lips trembling as if desperate to speak.

"Is there a problem?" Juniper pulls the last needle out and leans in closer, studying the man with genuine curiosity.

His cheeks are hollow, his skin severely bruised. He doesn't look like a functional human being. But those eyes... they're staring at her as if trying to burn a hole through her face.

*Does he recognize me?* she thought.

Impossible. She's in a flawless male disguise. Besides, she has absolutely no memory of him.

Silas stares at her for a long time. Then, the faintest hint of a smile tugs at his lips, and he subtly shakes his head. *It's nothing.*

His darling Seven is alive. All the years of enduring this hell were worth it.

"Let's go." Packing her things and confirming the wire transfer, Juniper leaves with Luella.

At the door, she pauses and casts one last glance at the frail man. Three months should be enough for him to recover—assuming this psychotic boss doesn't torture him again. She has no idea if the man is a saint or a sinner, but whether the life she just dragged from the brink survives will be entirely up to fate.

"Escort Dr. Nocturne out," Corvus orders. Once the door clicks shut, he steps up to Silas, removing his mask to look down at the gasping man. "You're in my hands now. You don't even get the luxury of choosing death."
