Ethan nodded. "Understood. That makes perfect sense. Those two really will stop at nothing. Aren't they terrified of losing their status in the Mercer family if this gets exposed?"
Lillian brushed it off. "Lose their status? Martin Mercer is completely blinded by his obsession with Sabrina. He chased her for years before finally getting her. Even if he found out she targeted me, what would he really do?
The fact that she didn't outright have me killed in prison just means she lacked the nerve.
If they had been a bit bolder, they could have easily exploited the Mercer family's connections to orchestrate my death behind bars. It was entirely within the realm of possibility.
Believe me, they are more than capable of doing something that vicious."
Ethan drew in a sharp breath. "Then it shouldn't be too hard to uncover the truth.
But like you said, Martin is infatuated with Sabrina. Even if the truth comes out, would he actually punish them?"
"All that woman has to do is cry, and Martin will fold," Lillian said flatly.
"Give it a few days, and it'll be like it never happened."
Ethan frowned, confused. "If that's the case, and having Brandon investigate won't lead to any real consequences, what's the point?"
Lillian smirked. "If the Mercers are busy tearing each other apart, they won't have the time to come bother me.
Besides, watching them implode from the inside is much more entertaining."
Ethan stared at her, utterly floored by her calculated brilliance.
His mind was struggling to keep up with her strategic foresight.
Li truly lived up to her legendary reputation. Her mind operated on a completely different level.
Just like his boss, she possessed an intellect far beyond the ordinary.
Unable to find the right words, Ethan simply gave her a silent thumbs-up.
He couldn't help it. The sheer admiration was overwhelming!
It blew his mind.
