Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 2640

“She used to. But then she saw me traveling all over the world without a boyfriend, and she started to panic,” Jenny said, her voice filled with frustration. “She’s mentioned marriage so many times, and I’ve always refused. This time, she went behind my back and arranged everything. The guy is all picked out. All I have to do is go home, go through the motions, have a wedding, and then, you know, consummate the marriage.”

Sylvia couldn’t help but laugh at her bleak, disgusted tone. “It wouldn’t happen that fast.”

Jenny propped her chin on her hand and sighed. “My family is in business. We have money but no influence, so my parents have always wanted me to marry into a powerful family. Apparently, this guy is the son of some director, and he’s already arranged a stable government job for my brother. They’re thrilled with the match. I’m not exaggerating when I say they expect me to go home, get married, and hop into bed with him.”

“If you don’t want to, you can fight it,” Sylvia said. “Not even your parents can decide your future for you.”

“Of course I don’t want to,” Jenny said immediately. “And there’s no way I could ever like him.”

“What if he’s tall and handsome?”

“Still wouldn’t like him.”

Hearing the certainty in her voice, Sylvia teased, “So, there’s already someone else in the picture.”

A faint blush crept up Jenny’s ears. She didn’t deny it, just chewed on her lip and mumbled, “The person I like might not like me back.”

Sylvia began to understand. Jenny didn’t want to go home and marry a stranger, but the person she liked hadn’t made a move, and she was afraid that if she waited any longer, she would miss her chance to even confess her feelings.

“You could just ask him,” Sylvia suggested.

“No way!” Jenny pouted. “That would be so humiliating. If he rejected me, I could never face him again. And even if we did get together, I’d be looking up at him for the rest of my life.”

“What’s more important, love or pride?”

“Pride, obviously,” Jenny answered without hesitation. “I’d rather die than lose face.”

“So you’re just going to stay in this limbo?” Sylvia asked, tilting her head. “What if you go home and your parents really don’t let you leave?”
