Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 2660

Back in the car, Gladys said smugly, "Do you believe me now, Auntie?"

Mrs. Winters's eyes were shining with excitement. "Does Ms. Quintin have a boyfriend?"

"Of course not."

"Then what are you waiting for? Arrange a meeting for her and Eugene immediately," Mrs. Winters urged.

"If I ask her, I'm sure she'll agree," Gladys said, her eyes glinting. "So... for getting Grandma's dowry back and finding my cousin such a wonderful new girlfriend, how are you planning to thank me?"

Mrs. Winters had already done the math. An alliance with the Quintin family was worth more than money could buy. She would gladly give up the entire dowry for that connection. She took Gladys's hand and patted it affectionately. "Sarah, if you can make this happen, I promise you, I'll give you half of the dowry we get back from Sylvia."

"You promise?" Gladys asked, her eyes sharp.

"I promise. I've given you my word."

"Alright, then," Gladys said with a determined nod. "With that, you can count on me to do my best."

The moment she got home, Gladys called Evelyn and subtly explained the true reason for Mrs. Winters's dinner invitation. She then lavished praise on Eugene and asked Evelyn if she would be willing to meet him.

Evelyn finally understood, and she wasn't pleased. First, she felt like she had been set up. Second, a mid-tier family like the Winters was beneath her now.

"Sarah, why didn't you tell me sooner?" she said, her tone cool. "I'm not looking to date anyone right now. I'm afraid your aunt will be disappointed."

Gladys heard the displeasure in her voice and quickly apologized. "Evelyn, please don't be angry. I just mentioned you to my aunt today, and she insisted on meeting you. That's all it was. She just wanted to get to know you."

Her frantic explanation soothed Evelyn's ego. Her voice softened. "I'm not angry. I just really don't want a relationship right now. I want to focus on my career and improve myself. My grandfather doesn't want me to marry so young, either."
