When she arrived at the GK headquarters, Estelle parked in the garage and walked toward the elevator.
The blue Ferrari parked a few spots away. A man in a light blue suit and sunglasses got out and started walking toward her, when a sudden whoosh of air sounded behind him.
Before he could turn, a sharp pain struck his neck, and his vision went black before he collapsed.
Two men in black suits appeared, swiftly carried him to a black Rolls-Royce, and drove off.
Estelle circled back around her car, intending to see who her follower was, but by the time she reached the Ferrari, there was no one there. The driver was gone.
She raised an eyebrow, puzzled. Had she been mistaken? Maybe he wasn't following her after all, and it was just a coincidence. Perhaps he’d already parked and left.
Unable to find anyone, Estelle didn’t dwell on it and took the elevator up to Harriet’s office.
Harriet was in a meeting, so Estelle settled onto the sofa to wait, occupying herself with a game of Sudoku.
Half an hour later, Harriet returned to find Estelle slumped against the sofa, hugging a throw pillow, fast asleep.
The sound of the door opening stirred Estelle, and her eyes fluttered open. Seeing it was Harriet, she closed them again, trying to shake off the grogginess.
Harriet had someone bring Estelle a cup of coffee. Once they were alone, she sat beside her and smoothed her hair back. “I know you two are going to be apart for a few days, but couldn't Mr. Lamont show a little restraint?” she teased.
Estelle’s long lashes trembled, and a delicate pink flush bloomed at the corners of her eyes. She sat up and took the coffee cup. “Is there sugar in this?”
“Of course. Everyone knows the infamous KING has a killer sweet tooth,” Harriet chuckled.
Estelle took a sip and sighed contentedly.
