The next day, Charlie helped Emily pick out a gift for Padgett. Afterward, the two of them took Kya to the nursing home.
At lunchtime, the three of them had a meal with Shawn Sullivan. Shawn looked in good spirits and unusually healthy, especially when he saw Kya—his eyes crinkled with delight, nearly disappearing in his smile.
After lunch, while they were chatting, Shawn asked Emily, “Is your sister-in-law due soon?”
Emily nodded. “Probably.”
She hadn't really kept up with the Sullivan family’s affairs in a while.
That afternoon, after leaving the nursing home, Charlie took Kya out to play, giving Emily some peace to focus on work.

The following Monday, Emily went into the office. As she walked in, her colleagues greeted her warmly.
“Good morning, Emily!”
“Emily, you’re even more beautiful than two days ago!”
“Emily, lunch is on me today, so you have to join us!”
...
Emily greeted each person with a serene smile, responding to everyone as she made her way to her desk.
Ever since she completed the design for the James Building, Emily had made a name for herself in the industry. Most clients who came to the studio were drawn to her reputation and requested her specifically.
In addition, Padgett’s recognition made her well-regarded in the company, so naturally, everyone was friendly towards her.
As soon as Emily sat down, Edwina, Edgar, Bishop, and a few other close colleagues came over to congratulate her. “We heard that Padgett’s promotion will be announced at the morning meeting. Congratulations!”
Emily smiled. “It’s my mentor who’s being promoted. You should congratulate him instead!”
Edwina laughed. “Everyone in the design department knows that Padgett values you most. Once he’s promoted, you’ll be next!”
