Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 2986

The subtle, refined scent that lingered on him seemed to melt away all of Emily's exhaustion from the day. Her eyes sparkled with a smile. “Okay!”

Charlie started the car and pulled out, one hand on the steering wheel, the other finding hers. With a warm curve of his lips, he said, “We'll stay at home tonight. Tomorrow’s the weekend—let’s take Kya out on the boat for some fishing. She didn’t get enough fun last time, so let’s make sure she enjoys herself this time.”

Emily had been incredibly busy lately, and he wanted to give her a chance to unwind.

Emily pressed her lips together and turned to Charlie. “Charlie, I can’t go tomorrow. I have to go to the office to work overtime.”

Charlie frowned. “You have to work overtime again? How long has this been going on—are things that busy?”

Emily explained, “A last-minute project came up. They need the drawings by Monday.”

Charlie nodded without speaking.

Emily turned her hand to clasp his, her clear eyes meeting his. “Are you upset? Please don’t be. I should be free next week; we can go out boating then.”

“I’m not upset!”

As the car stopped at a red light, Charlie reached up to brush her cheek. “I just hate seeing you work so hard. I miss you, and I want to spend more time together.”

Emily’s eyes shimmered with emotion. “I understand.”

Charlie’s gaze softened. “Don’t worry. If my wife is pursuing her career, I’ll always support her.”

Emily’s face flushed, and she brushed his hand away, but inside, she felt wonderfully warm. Nothing gave her more strength and courage to face everything than his support.

He was her steadfast, unwavering support.

Charlie chuckled softly, looking at her with deep affection. “Well, in that case, let’s not stay home tonight after all.”

Emily was caught off guard by his sudden change of plans, but quickly caught on. Her cheeks turned crimson, like a cloud at sunset, and she turned to gaze out the window.

Charlie noticed even her ears had gone pink and translucent. She was so lively and adorable, he felt his heart melt like a gentle cloud.

The lobby quieted for a moment, making Norah’s cheerful greeting stand out even more. “Good morning, Mr. Flemmings!”

Zachary grinned. “Xavier, Norah brought us a cat. Look at her! Isn’t she gorgeous?”

Damian chimed in, “Bet you’ve never seen a cat this beautiful, Xavier!”

Xavier looked at the snow-white Circe in her carrier, his tongue pressing briefly against his back teeth as his eyes narrowed.

He’d seen this cat on the very first day. All week, the moment he opened his phone in the morning or put it down at night, there she was. By now, he was probably more familiar with this cat’s face than his own father’s.

Norah giggled. “Mr. Flemmings, Circe’s all recovered—she’s ready to go home!”

She picked up the cat and walked over to Xavier. “Why don’t you hold her?”

Xavier immediately stepped back, his frown deepening.
