Norah frowned and opened her eyes. When she saw Xavier, a flash of daze crossed her eyes, but she quickly woke up. Her gaze turned to surprise, even guarded.
Xavier had dark circles under his eyes, his chin was covered in stubble, and combined with his somber look, he indeed didn't look like a good guy.
"Uncle Gonzalez?" Norah called out, instinctively looking toward the door leading to the living room. She was probably wondering where her mom went and why a creepy guy was sitting by her bed.
Xavier looked at her with deep pain, his slightly hoarse voice choked with emotion. "You really forgot me?"
Norah paused, looking at him weirdly as she slowly shook her head. "No, I remember seeing you when I was a kid."
Even though the man now looked very different from the one in her memory.
His deep, painful gaze made her feel uncomfortable. It was as if it held too much emotion and unsaid words, making her feel momentarily lost.
"It's better that you forgot," he lowered his eyes, his tense jaw trembling slightly. "We shouldn't have known each other in the first place."
They were people from two different worlds, and they had finally returned to their respective worlds.
He looked up at the girl, a heavy gloom lingering in his eyes. His voice grew even hoarser. "Norah, I'm sorry."
Norah frowned, her eyes shifting as she said in surprise,
"You weren't the one who hit me, were you?"
Xavier looked at her and suddenly smiled—a smile uglier than crying. "It has something to do with me."
Norah realized. No wonder!
Her features were soft, clear, and innocent. She smiled in relief. "I believe you didn't do it on purpose. I'm fine now, and my broken leg and arm will heal. Don't blame yourself anymore!"
Xavier parted his lips, looking at her deeply. "Norah, don't be so kind."
Norah looked at him, completely confused.
