Still stinging from Sara's earlier mockery, Jenny found Zane's eager agreement grating and turned her head away in annoyance.
After dinner, the group relocated to 9th Mansion.
With the alcohol flowing and the dimly lit, pulse-pounding environment of the private club working its magic, everyone let loose. Any lingering restraint vanished.
Forgetting Adrian's earlier warnings, colleagues swarmed Norah to offer toasts and congratulate her on the promotion.
With Adrian and Sara running interference, Norah managed to stick to beer, keeping the alcohol from hitting her too hard.
Strobe lights flashed as the group sang and cheered, driving the party's energy to a fever pitch.
Leaning back against the plush leather sofa, Norah watched two guys from her department dramatically serenade each other with a love song. Caught up in the infectious mood, she couldn't help but laugh along with the crowd.
Sara handed her a chilled cocktail, clinking their glasses together before downing half of hers in one go. "God, that hits the spot!"
Norah offered her a napkin. "Pace yourself. You're going to get wasted."
"My project is finally wrapping up, which means I never have to deal with that perverted old creep's wandering hands again!" Sara let out a heavy sigh of relief. "I've been biting my tongue for a whole month."
Norah frowned, her protective instincts flaring. "What exactly did he do?"
"He kept making me stay late to meet with him alone, constantly tried to grope me at business dinners, and even had the nerve to send me a lingerie set. It was absolutely disgusting."
"And you didn't report him?"
"Relax, I never let him actually touch me. I know how to handle myself."
Adrian, who had been listening from the side, spoke up with an icy edge to his voice. "Next time something like that happens, just slap him across the face."
Sara gave a bitter smile. "And lose my job? No thanks."
Adrian scoffed. "Who cares? Come work for me. I guarantee I'll double whatever they're paying you right now."
Grateful for the support, Sara smiled. "If I ever hit my breaking point, I might just take you up on that offer."
"Why wait?" Adrian said flatly. "Come over now."
"I'll keep it in mind. Thanks."
