9th Mansion
Everyone else had left the private room, leaving only Adrian and Sara behind.
Sara had asked the waiter for a first-aid kit. She made Adrian sit on the sofa and used a cotton swab to apply ointment to the bruised corner of his eye.
Adrian kept his head down, dodging her hand. "I'm fine. It'll be better by tomorrow," he said dismissively.
"Hold still. The ointment will help it heal faster. You can't go to work looking like this," Sara scolded, dabbing more cream onto the bruise.
The cool soothing sensation on his inflamed skin helped Adrian calm down a bit. He let out a self-deprecating laugh. "We all had a bit too much to drink today. Things got out of hand."
He had blurted out those words in the heat of the moment, and looking back, he realized how reckless it had been.
Especially with Norah. If she had heard him, would she start overthinking things?
As Sara carefully treated his wound, she asked, "Did Norah have a thing for Mr. Hanson before?"
Adrian hesitated for a second before nodding, his expression darkening. "Yeah. For years."
Remembering that Sara had once pursued Gonzalez herself, he quickly clarified, "She wasn't trying to hide it from you. After the car accident, she completely forgot he even existed."
Sara looked surprised. "Really? Completely forgot?"
"Really," Adrian insisted. "And he had more than a little to do with that accident."
Sara felt a jolt of shock, followed by a wave of relief. Thank God she hadn't kept throwing herself at Gonzalez. If Norah ever got her memory back, things would have been incredibly awkward!
Frowning, Sara asked, "So is Mr. Hanson trying to win her back now?"
Adrian scoffed dismissively. "Isn't it pathetic? She used to be crazy about him, and he was as cold as ice. Now that she's forgotten him, he's suddenly playing the devoted suitor!"
It finally clicked for Sara. Now she understood the tension between Adrian and Gonzalez during their camping trip.
"Do you think he's just acting out of guilt?" she guessed.
